Week ending 29 March 2018

Sports Relief Week “Steps Challenge”

The steps have all been stepped and counted and the totals all added together to make a grand total of 50,387 steps. The maths as well as the activity was certainly a challenge, as the classes added their steps and then the combined steps of the whole class. The winner of the eggtastic prize are the Gravett family with a guess of 50,000 steps. Congratulations to them and a big thank you to all who entered - together we raised £163.70 for Sport Relief.

UK Chess Challenge

This year we have had 20 pupils in KS2 take part in the Delancey UK Schools Chess Challenge with a mix from both Class 2 and Class 3. Mrs Sheridan has been very supportive with a quick clear up from lunch so that we could use the hall. The children have been a lovely group for Mrs Manzie to help and they have all learnt a great deal and improved their chess knowledge and skills over the 7-week competition. We had some strong candidates and two strong players in the final with the winner being Peter Fegyveres-Nagy from Class 2. Well done Peter!

A-Life Healthy Eating and Fitness

On Wednesday 28th March A-Life came to school. During the morning all classes took part in activities to promote healthy eating and living. The activities included making a healthy meal, looking at the salt and sugar content of different foods, thinking about how much exercise we have and what we do after school, brushing our teeth, what bones we have, how smoking affects your body and lots more besides. During the afternoon each class had a fitness workshop.

Mr Adams also talked to us about the 7 day healthy challenge, a leaflet about it came home on Wednesday. To give everyone time to complete it you have until Monday 30th April to complete the challenge. When you have completed the challenge and have your certificate, please bring them in to the school office and we can look at them all together. The certificates will be returned to you.

Advance notice  - School Photographs!

We have decided to trial a company called Fishpole for school photographs this year. Their website is www.fishpolephotography.co.uk and they are a local company based in Thame. Their approach is different –“a child-focused, relaxed method which engages each individual.” Wherever possible (weather permitting) the photographs will be taken outdoors in the school grounds. We have asked this company to also take Class photographs which will be done the same way and these will be taken on Thursday 14 June. Individual photographs, siblings, etc will be taken in the Autumn Term as usual.

Swimming for after the Easter Holiday

Swimming will commence for Class 2 on the first day back to school (Monday 16 April). They will have 6 sessions in total (16, 23, 30 June & 14, 21 May & 4 June 2018). As always, we are most grateful to receive a ‘voluntary contribution’ from parents towards the cost of the transport (currently £75 a visit) in cash or by cheque please (for £12 for the six sessions,) with cheques made payable to Stadhampton Primary School. Thank you.
