Congratulations to you all!

School Year Group Photographs

The year group photographs taken on Thursday 14 June have been on display in the hall for the last week. Order forms are available on the hall table for any families wishing to place an order. The deadline for orders to be returned back to school is Monday 3 July to take advantage of the free delivery to school. For clarity, please indicate on the form (if necessary) whether you want the version with or without the members of staff! Thank you.

School Council event – “Stadhampton’s Got Talent”!

School Council are arranging a talent competition in order to raise money for a charity called Books2Africa. The Charity provides schools in Africa with much-needed books. As we are fortunate enough to have lots of books, we thought we could send our surplus books to other children for them to enjoy. For each 20kg of books we send, we need £7 to cover delivery costs.

Stadhampton pupils are invited to showcase a talent they wish to share with others. This may be singing, dancing, a magic act, acting – the list is endless!

Entry for each child is £1 and children can perform individually or in a group. All acts will have the opportunity to perform in front of their class and one act from each year will perform in front of the school.

Children will need to bring their entry money in by Monday 9 July. The acts will be performed in front of their class during Monday to Thursday and one act from each year group will be performed to the whole school on Friday 13 July.

Thank you for your support. We can’t wait to see the children’s talents – and help other children as a result!

CLICK Performance

On Monday, a theatre company came into Stadhampton School to perform a play for Class 3 and other Year 5/6 children from our partnership schools. The play was about going on the internet safely and being careful about what you say/do online. The three characters were called Nina, Click (Clara) and Jay. Click was obsessed with online gaming and said unkind things to people online without realising the impact of her words. Her friends reminded her of E-Safety rules and encouraged her to play football outside with them rather than just playing FIFA online.

It was a memorable performance that taught the children a lot about being safe online and having fun at the same time.

Teams for Sports Night on Friday 13 July – 6pm arrival for races to start at 6.30pm

Pupils will know which team they have been put into for Sports Night tomorrow and the younger pupils will have this information on a slip so that they know what colour T-shirt they will need. (We may have bibs which could be borrowed if you don’t have the appropriate colour T-shirt.) The team colours are the Olympic colours of black, red, blue, green and yellow. If any pupil is not going to be at Sports Night it would be very useful for the teachers to know this before the teams are confirmed so that they are as fairly balanced as possible. Please let Mrs Hopkins know by e-mail to office.2455@stadhampton.oxon.sch.uk

Thank you.

‘Moving Up’ Days next week

A reminder that in order for pupils to experience, and become more familiar with, classroom arrangements for September, we have planned a series of ‘moving up’ days in July which take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week. Pupils should go directly to the class they will be in for the start of the new academic year when they come into school and Year 6 pupils should hopefully be able to come in independently.

ELLIE Project

On 21 June, Year 6 performed their final ELLIE Project assembly with the theme of ‘Making Links Spider.’ Two groups presented their ideas in very different ways. One group’s story was titled ‘Candy Land’ and was inspired by Class 3’s focus on Alice in Wonderland. It was about Curiosity Cat’s inquisitive nature leading her down a ‘rabbit hole’. All the characters came to help but they all fell into Candy Land too! In the end, they all linked together to solve the problem. The second group’s play was called Ellie’s Big Problem in which Elli used her knowledge from the Woodlands residential to make rope. The children enjoyed preparing the assemblies and sharing them with the rest of the school.

Year 6 Final Forest School Session

Year 6’s last Forest School session will be in the morning of Tuesday 17  July.  As in previous years, we would like to mark the occasion by staying at Forest School for a slightly extended session, so that Y6 can have lunch cooked on the fire (hot dogs, marshmallows etc).  This would mean the children would return to school by 1pm and would not need a packed lunch or school meal on that day.

We would very much appreciate a contribution of £1.50 per child to cover the cost of lunch.  Please return this to Melanie Gravett or the school office as soon as possible and also let us know about any special dietary requirements.

Official Notice of the PTA's Annual General Meeting (AGM) – Wednesday 3 October, 8pm in the School Hall

The PTA plays a vital part in the school community and all parents, as members of the PTA, are invited to support the AGM. This is your chance to hear and see how the funds you have helped to raise have been used for the benefit of the children at our school.

We appreciate the date of the AGM in October is a while away, but we wanted official notice of the meeting to be sent out before the summer holidays so that everyone has time to think about coming along to the meeting and / or getting more involved with the PTA.

The PTA Committee (Chair, Treasurer, Secretary) will be elected at the AGM so if you are interested in taking on one of these roles for the forthcoming academic year, please speak to Melanie Gravett who can give you more details about what is involved.

Our next PTA committee meeting will now be on Wednesday 12 September at 8pm, venue TBC.

Cake Club

Well done to Albie, Honor, Sidney and Thomas for winning Friday’s cakes. This week’s offering is courtesy of Carol. Thank you Carol and good luck to everyone!

LITTLE BEARS NEWS:

This week the Little Bears have talked about the life cycle of a butterfly. We also talked about symmetry and will start making our own Butterfly pictures as our 5 cocooned caterpillars start to emerge.

We have been listening to the sounds of nature e.g. birds singing and continued to discuss other animals life cycles e.g. frogs

The Little Bears have loved reading the The Very Hungry Caterpillar book and discussing what they think healthy food is and we will be enjoying a fruit tasting session next week.

Class 3                         Joshua

Congratulations to you all!

Year 6 Cycle Training

Unfortunately, this year we are unable to offer our current Y6 pupils an opportunity to undertake cycle safety training as we have no-one to lead the training who has the necessary qualifications and an insufficient number of parent volunteers.

We are so sorry. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered and we hope

that we can revive this opportunity next year.

Important information about swimming in the school pool – please get ready!

Mrs Shortman and Mrs Singleton are working hard to ensure that the school pool is ready for use by ensuring that we have the correct chemical balance of pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness. Currently the pH level is too high and we are having to do very frequent backwashing of the pool and refilling it to bring this down to an acceptable level. We also have the issue this year of needing to replace the pool heater as it cannot be repaired. We have ordered a new one and are waiting for it to arrive and be fitted. However temperatures are meant to rise significantly next week so it is possible that we may be able to use the pool without the heater! OCC have done their pool inspection and once we get the water chemically balanced we will be good to go! Thank you to Mrs Shortman and Mrs Singleton. Thank you also to Mrs Stafford, Mrs Manzie, Mrs Ellis, Mrs Venner and Mrs Turner for completing lifeguard training, which is also essential for continued pool use.

We therefore request that ALL pupils (including Reception) have their swimming kit in school from Monday (25 June) ready for use in the school pool. All pupils, boys and girls must have their own swimming hat and towel; girls are required to have a one piece swimming costume please and boys need trunks which are quite tight fitting so that they do not ‘balloon’ when they are in the water. The onus will be on families to ensure that swimming kit is in school each day, otherwise pupils may miss out on opportunities to swim. Pupils who do not have their swimming kit in school will sit in the pool area and read when their class has their turn in the school pool. Thank you.

Last call - Year 6 Cycle Training – Trainers Required!

Thank you to Kerri Jones for offering to help with cycle safety training. We really need 4 parent helpers to be able to offer this opportunity to our Year 6 pupils with ideally one parent having been involved in cycle safety training previously. Please do let us know as soon as possible if you’re able to help this year.

Parking in Cratlands Close

We have received complaints this week from a resident in Cratlands Close about the parking of larger vehicles on the pavements/corners, which obscure the view when people are trying to drive in or out of Cratlands Close at around 3.15pm. Please could we respectfully remind parents to show consideration to the residents of Cratlands Close at all times and to ensure that they park their car so as not to make driving in Cratlands Close hazardous for anyone – motorists or pedestrians. Thank you.

Change to Menu on 21 June

Food & More have advised us that on Thursday 21 June there will a BBQ themed menu instead of the usual menu. The details are on display outside the kitchen and on the attached flyer.

Parent Library

A reminder that we have a small selection of books available for parents to borrow on an honesty basis. They are in a ‘Parenting Matters’ library box in the front entrance area. We have just added a new title “Unplugged Parenting – How to Raise Happy, Healthy Children in the Digital Age” by Dr Elizabeth Kilbey. This is a nationally topical issue at the moment. Other books in our collection include;

Raising Girls by Steve Biddulph

Raising Boys by Steve Biddulph

Help Your Child Love Reading by Alison David

Detoxing Childhood by Sue Palmer

Simple Guide to Childhood Trauma by Betsy de Thierry

The Danish Way of Parenting by Alexander and Sandahl.

A number of these books have been on loan for some time, and if you have finished with them, please return to the box so that other parents can borrow them. Thank you.

LITTLE BEARS NEWS:

We have begun our new theme; Mini-beasts, which we are all really excited about and really engaging the children’s imaginations. We have been looking at what mini-beasts are in all their various sizes, shapes and colours and finding out what the children already know about them before we embark on our investigations. We also look forward to our ZooLab visit this Friday which in the past has always proved to be great fun for the children and parents!
