Sports
Relief Week
Next week is Sports Relief Week and with
the National Challenge of a billion steps a day we at Stadhampton are also
planning ways of seeing how many steps we can do a day. Each day we will have a
different way of travelling 80 metres (our running track) and then we will add
them together to create a class and whole school total. How many steps do you
think our whole school will manage over the week? Let us know how many steps
you think by entering our competition, please put your answers in an envelope
with your child’s name on with a £1.00 donation. Donations will go to Sports
Relief and there will be a prize for the person closest to the final amount!
Jian-Zi
Tournament 2018
On Friday 9th March we held our
(postponed) annual “Jian-Zi” Tournament, linked with Chinese New Year. A
“jian-zi” is a feathered toy, not unlike a shuttlecock, which is popularly used
in China by children to play a version of “keepy-uppy”. Ask the children for
further details!
Children in all classes have been
practicing over recent weeks and the top three scorers in each year-group go
through to the tournament final. This year the winner in each year-group is as
follows:-
Year
6 Sam S 35
Year
5 Joshua H 10
Year
4 Harvey S 36
Year
3 Dexter E 3
Year
2 Ollie P 20
Year
1 Harvey K 4
As you can see, it was a close result but
our school champion this year is Harvey S who will have his name added to our
“Jian-Zi” trophy. Well done Harvey! All pupils in Reception had the same score
so they have a class jian-zi to practise with ready for next year! Well done
and thank you to all who took part. We await the result of the event held at
our partner school in Hazlach, Poland, to find out who the international winner
is!
A big thank you to Austin and Sydney’s
grandad, who lived in China and very generously donated this year’s jian-zas.
Gardening
Club
We are grateful to Mr and Mrs Burnell and
Mrs Green for offering to run a Gardening Club again on Friday lunchtimes for
pupils, beginning on Friday 23 March and then continuing after Easter. Pupils
will need to wear wellies for the Club, be in Years 3-6 and be willing to
commit to attending each week. A maximum of 15 pupils may participate so that
pupils who are interested in gardening can start to develop some gardening
skills under close supervision. At the present time this opportunity has been
offered initially to Class 3 pupils, who have already signed up for all of the
available places.
Easter
Lunch
There is a special Easter Lunch on
Wednesday 28 March: Roast chicken or Quorn Roast, Yorkshire Pudding and
stuffing, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, gravy; Easter Chocolate Fudge
Pudding. Please order and pay as normal.
School
Council Easter Competition
The school council have hatched a plan to
launch an egg-citing Easter competition. Children are asked to decorate a
hard-boiled egg in a creative way. The cost of entry will be 50p and a winner
will be chosen from each year group to win an egg-cellent prize. Please bring
entries in on Tuesday 27th March (no earlier due to lack of storage)
and ensure name labels are underneath each entry so judging can be done
anonymously. Winners will be announced on Thursday 29th March.
We look forward to seeing lots of
imaginative entries!

LITTLE
BEARS NEWS:
The
Little Bears continued with the ‘weather’ topic this week and made a huge
collage Rainbow! The children spent a long time carefully sticking and
cutting paper ready to match the colours on our rainbow. We continue to learn
how rainbows form, beginning with more information about the weather in our
discussions about rain. We have enjoyed many wonderful books, art creations,
and many discovery based colour activities. We have been learning new songs
“Rain , Rain Go Away”, “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring”, “I can sing a rainbow” and
more. We will be crafting our own musical instruments to enjoy in our
music and movement time also.
Easter Sports Club:
Michael Hopkins, who is well-known to the school as
a PE teacher will be leading an Easter Sports Course on Monday 9, Tuesday 10
and Wednesday 11 April at Stadhampton Primary School. The course runs from
9-3pm each day and is open to all pupils (not necessarily just Stadhampton
School) aged 4-11. The cost is £10 for the day and bookings can be made
directly by e-mailing m.hopkins07@hotmail.com or via
Mrs Hopkins in the school office.
