Week ending 23 February
2018
Welcome
back to everyone!
Consultation
regarding joining a Multi Academy Trust (MAT)
A
reminder that a specific e-mail address has been set up for comments, questions
or sharing of any thoughts about Stadhampton School joining a Multi Academy
Trust (MATConsultation@stadhampton.oxon.sch.uk)
and a meeting with parents and other
interested members of the local community is planned for Thursday 1 March at
7.30pm in the School Hall.
Recorders
As part of their music curriculum all
pupils in Class 2 and 3 have recorder lessons on Mondays during the second half
of each full term. For hygiene reasons we ask that pupils have their own
recorder for these lessons. Recorders can be bought from any musical supplier
but, for convenience, recorders and recorder books are available to buy from
the school office. Recorders are on sale for £6.50 each and recorder books for
£5.50 each.

Swimming
Contributions – Class 3 Pupils
As always, we are most grateful to receive
a ‘voluntary contribution’ from parents of £2 per child per swimming session
towards the transport costs (currently £75 per visit). Cheques for swimming
contributions (£12 in total) should be made payable to Stadhampton School.
Thank you to those parents who have already made a contribution, your continued
support is very much appreciated.
Chinese
New Year events
Chinese New Year happened during Half Term
but our own events have been planned for next week. These events include
Chinese Ribbon Dance workshops for all pupils on Tuesday 27th
February (the closest date to Chinese New Year that we could book) and our
annual ‘”Jian Zi” Tournament on Friday 2nd March. Please ensure all
pupils have indoor PE kit in school on Tuesday 27th. Thank you.
World Book Day -
Thursday 1st March 2018
For World Book Day this year we are
returning to something we introduced very successfully two years ago. We are
asking children and adults to bring in a prop from their favourite story book.
The prop can be ready made or you can be creative and make the prop by adding
your own artistic flair to it! During the morning we will be holding a
competition throughout the school where we 'guess the book' from the props
brought in. Small accessories can be worn if appropriate but we are not asking
for anyone to wear full costume.
£1 book tokens will be distributed
to all pupils this week (please search in book bags!) which will enable pupils
to exchange their tokens for either a £1 World Book Day book or receive £1 off
a book worth £2.99 or more in participating bookshops.
Musical Performance
by pupils from the Matrix Music School
On Wednesday 21st February we were
treated to an amazing presentation of an original composition called 'Wolf
Pack', written and performed by Miffy, a 10-year-old student at the Matrix
Music School. Miffy, who played the piano, was accompanied by fellow
musicians Martin (aged 11) and our own Peter (aged 9) on keyboards with
adults Lindsay and Antonia on percussion. Peter is also a student at the Matrix
Music School, run by Lindsay Mackenzie, and along with the rest of the ensemble
performed the same composition at the Yamaha European Junior Original Concert
in Hamburg during Half Term.
The whole school watched and all
children were captivated by the performance. We thank everyone involved
from Matrix and congratulate them on a stunning composition
and presentation. If anyone is interested in seeing more, the Matrix Music
School is putting on a Young Composers' Concert on Sunday 4th March in
Abingdon. Further details are available via either of the following

LITTLE
BEARS NEWS:
The
Little Bears started the week by enjoying a game of Dragons! The team at
preschool very quickly picked up on this interest and told the children it was
Chinese New Year. The children went on to practise writing Chinese letters. They
looked at the different shapes needed to write names prior to doing
so. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Chinese New Year this
year and learning about ‘The Year of the Dog’. It has been a good opportunity
for us to educate them about a different culture and tradition as well as have
lots of fun with the dragon game!
Advance Notice of an Easter Sports Club:
Michael Hopkins, who is well-known to the school as
a PE teacher will be leading an Easter Sports Course on Monday 9, Tuesday 10
and Wednesday 11 April at Stadhampton Primary School. The course runs from
9-3pm each day and is open to all pupils (not necessarily just Stadhampton
School) aged 4-11. The cost is £10 for the day and bookings can be made
directly by e-mailing m.hopkins07@hotmail.com or via
Mrs Hopkins in the school office.
