World Book Day

Thank you to everyone for your support of World Book Day on Thursday March 1st. Each class had good fun investigating the props that children and staff had brought in and guessing which book they had come from and who the author was. We also had a whole-school assembly with groups of children sharing their props and the children learnt more about the popular books and authors in other classes as well as their own. It was an enjoyable way to promote books and authors which is what the day is about!

Reminder for Year 6 Parents about the SATs meeting

A reminder that there is a SATs meeting for Y6 parents with Mrs Turner and Mrs Wahid between 3.15pm and 3.30pm on Tuesday 6 March.  At this meeting the format for the week will be discussed, the timetable explained and there will be an opportunity to ask questions. We do hope that all Year 6 parents will be able to attend.

Name the Food Waste Truck Competition

Thank you to all parents and members of staff who voted for our contribution to the South Oxfordshire District Council's 'Name the Food Waste Truck Competition'. Waste Warrior, the name put forward by this school following voting amongst the KS2 children, was in the top most voted for names! Congratulation to Jake J for coming up with this name! Jake wins a family swimming pass for GLL Leisure centres in the area and £150 worth of book tokens for the school - thank you Jake!

We understand that there were 71 names put forward by schoolchildren across the area. Thousand of residents across South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse voted online for the names they wanted to see printed on the new trucks. The twelve names that came out on top will now be printed on the 12 new food waste lorries recently introduced across the two district council areas.

The Food Waste Team reminded us that everyone can recycle all cooked and uncooked food waste using the council's household collection service. This is collected weekly and taken to an aerobic digestion plant near Wallingford where it is recycled into gas for electricity and fertiliser for local farmland. We have invited the Waste Team to visit us and explain more about recycling through their educational workshops and activities programme.

Chinese Ribbon Dance Workshop

On Tuesday 27th February we were lucky enough to have Polly from One Day Creative come to school to show each class how to dance with ribbons. She started each session with a story about why the Chinese perform Ribbon Dances and then showed us some moves. Classes then put the moves they had been shown into a short dance to music. The older children also practised writing their names with the ribbons. The children were all very enthusiastic and concentrated hard on what they were doing. Definitely a skill to continue practising!

Swimming Contributions – Class 3 Pupils

As always, we are most grateful to receive a ‘voluntary contribution’ from parents of £2 per child per swimming session towards the transport costs (currently £75 per visit). Cheques for swimming contributions (£12 in total) should be made payable to Stadhampton School. Thank you to those parents who have already made a contribution, your continued support is very much appreciated.

LITTLE BEARS NEWS:

Our topic this week is Rainbows! We have been learning how rainbows form and beginning to learning more about the weather in our discussions about rain. The colour spectrum  will be explored through many wonderful books, art creations, and discovery based science activities. We have been learning new songs “Rain , Rain Go Away”, “It’s Raining, It’s Pouring”, “I can sing a rainbow” and more. We will be crafting rain sticks to enjoy in our music and movement time also.

We will also use the “rainbow” to continue on with personal health and begin discussing nutrition and the importance of eating a “rainbow” of growing food continuing with our healthy eating topic.
