Newsletter for week ending 9 December 2016 (last one for this year!)

School Christmas Productions

Thank you, as always, for all your support. We had a great turnout of parents and other relatives as well as neighbours from Stadhampton attend both productions. All the children did really well and are a credit to you all. Proceeds from the sale of tickets, along with those from the bucket collection, will help to support the continued provision of Forest School for all children at school and we are delighted to let you know that we raised £491.20. Thank you!

Our Key Stage 2 production, “Sleeping Beauty – the Ugly Truth!”, was great fun and was clearly enjoyed by pupils and audience alike! We have received many messages of congratulations from parents for the quality of acting, singing, dancing, narration and scenery-changing. Thank you to you, as parents, for helping support us with providing amazing costumes and helping your child/ren practise their lines and for lending us your children for the evening performance! Thank you to all staff involved, especially Miss Raval, Mrs Garrard, Mrs Wilkin, Mrs Shortman and Mrs Singleton, and to Mrs Hutchence and Mrs Eaton for their additional support, and to the PTA for providing the after performance bar. However, our greatest thanks go to the Year 6 children who were outstanding this year, especially our soloists “Tiffany” and “Alfie” who captivated us all with their singing and have everyone’s respect.

Our Key Stage 1 and Reception production, “Busy, Busy Bethlehem”, was also most enjoyable and the children did so well to learn all the songs and remember their speaking parts and actions. We are already seeing glimpses of who may be taking on lead parts in the future! Thank you to all staff involved and especially Mrs Manzie, Mrs Stafford, Mrs Baker and Mrs Gonzalez.

Our annual Nativity and Carol Service will be held in the church of St John the Baptist in Stadhampton at 2:00pm on Tuesday 13th December and you are most welcome to join us. All pupils will come back to school after the Nativity and Carol Service.

At 3:45pm, the Stadhampton Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on the green outside the church. Children from our school choir will meet back on the green to lead the singing of some carols around the tree and one lucky Year 6 pupil will be turning on the Christmas lights! We do hope you can join us there.

We are delighted to share the names of our "MEERKAT Champion of the Week" award in each class as follows;

School Netball Tournament Report

“On Wednesday 30th November, seven class 3 pupils, (Thomas, Lawrence, Lorenzo, Ella, Isabella, Tillie and Juliana,) went to Icknield Community College to compete in a school partnership netball tournament. Six schools, including Stadhampton, participated in the tournament. We played five games of intense netball and won four of the five games and came second overall! Everybody played really well and worked very hard as a team, together we scored 16 points and did very well! We would also like to thank Mrs Dickens and Mrs Elliott for providing transport.”

Whole School Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 14 December

It is a tradition at Stadhampton School that the whole-school joins in our Festive Lunch which, this year, is on 14th December and we hope that no-one will have a packed lunch on that day.

The menu is:

Roasted Turkey with Chipolata sausage or Celebration Roast with Veggie Chipolata; Yorkshire Pudding, stuffing; roast potatoes, carrots, peas and gravy. Dessert is a Christmas Cookie. We can accommodate requests such as no gravy, etc.

The cost of the meal is £2.10 and all pupils make their special place mat in the morning and we have crackers, napkins and music. Staff serve the pupils with their meal. Payment for the meal for pupils in Classes 2 and 3 is welcome at anytime prior to the event. Pupils who normally have a Free School Meal may still do so on this day and all pupils in Reception and Class 1 are entitled to a Universal Infant Free School Meal so will get their lunch free on this day too!

Swimming at the Abbey Sports Centre in January

As always, we are most grateful to receive a ‘voluntary contribution’ from parents of £2 per child per swimming session towards the transport costs (currently £75 per visit). Cheques for swimming contributions should be made payable to Stadhampton School. Thank you, in advance, of your continued support.

Amended Lunch Menu to start in January 2017

We have requested some changes to the school menu as some of the choices were not at all popular with the children. The amended menu which will begin in January 2017 will be uploaded to the school website as soon as we receive it.

Message from Governing Body – Parents’ Forum

The presentation we discussed at the Parents’ Forum is now available on the school website. The presentation contains some links on the last slide to websites that provide more information on academies. The Governing Body have the final decision regarding whether we convert to academy status or not, however we will ensure we keep a dialogue open with all stakeholder groups during the next few months.

The main items that came up at the Forum were as follows:

The state of the toilets in Class 1 - these were actually replaced last year and new flooring laid however we are aware that they can smell at times. We are monitoring the cleaning of the toilets on a regular basis as well as ensuring the children flush after use.

A discussion occurred about the change in curriculum and specifically the  new focus on breadth of learning in each year group.  The school has spent significant time redesigning our approach to the new curriculum and there is a natural breadth of learning by having mixed classes.  The school retains its philosophy of individual learning and ensuring that children are able to make progress at a pace and breadth that provides appropriate support and challenge.  The way this is achieved is specific to each child and will be discussed as part of your regular updates on how your child is progressing.

Thank you to everyone who came.

A big thank you to Waitrose in Thame for their generous donation of hot chocolate, biscuits and marshmallows for Forest School - they will be enjoyed by all the children!  Thank you as well to Georgina Wiggins for sorting it all out.

Footsteps – A Parent’s Guide

Children in Class 1 and Reception have all been given a copy of a road safety booklet to share at home. The booklet is produced by Footsteps, Oxfordshire County Council’s child pedestrian road safety scheme, and the booklet is in the form of a parent’s guide. The guide is mainly written for parents of children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 but with the darker evenings and early mornings it is an appropriate time to re-visit road safety awareness with all pupils so we have also put a copy of it on our website under our ‘Parents Useful Information’ tab.
