Driving in Cratlands Close
A parent has e-mailed to express their concerns about the speed at which some parents drive down Cratlands Close. The safety of children is of paramount importance to us all. We would remind parents to please exercise particular caution about their driving speed when they are in close proximity to the school.

Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Book Fair this week. It has now finished. We shall let you know after the October Holiday about the books that the school has been able to receive by way of commission.

New School Meals Menu
A link to the new menu which begins on 2nd November has now been added to the school website.

After School Clubs in Term 2
Dates and details of the After School Clubs taking place in Term 2 have now been uploaded to the school website.
There are still places left on all After School Clubs, so it would still be possible to add your child to the lists at the beginning of next term.

Worms

Thank you to a parent for reporting that they have treated their child (and the rest of the family) for worms. Please could everyone take this opportunity to remind their child (ren) about the importance of washing their hands particularly after using the toilet. Thank you.

Follow up to Childline School Visit to Class 3 Pupils
The Childline Schools Service has recently visited all children in Years 5 and 6 to provide them with key messages about keeping safe. It can be beneficial for these messages to be reinforced at home.

The NSPCC has developed some guides for all parents of primary school aged children to speak to your child about keeping safe – called the ‘Underwear Rule.’ You can find guides to the Underwear Rule to help you have simple conversations about keeping safe from abuse at www.nspcc.org.uk/underwear.

You can speak to an advisor for further advice or request a hard-copy guide for parents and carers by phoning the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000. You can also visit www.nspcc.org.uk/parents for other advice on keeping your child safe.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or further comments about the service, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Did you know that whenever you buy anything online - from your weekly shop to your annual holiday - you could be raising a free donation for Stadhampton Primary School PTA? There are nearly 3,000 retailers including Amazon, John Lewis, Aviva, thetrainline and Sainsbury's, who will donate a percentage of the amount you spend to Stadhampton Primary School PTA to say thank you for shopping with them. It's really simple, and doesn't cost you anything.

All you have to do is:
1. Go to http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/stadhamptonpspta
2. Sign up for free
3. Get shopping - your donations will be collected by easyfundraising and automatically sent to Stadhampton Primary School PTA. It couldn't be easier!

Newsletter for week ending 16th October 2015

Application for a Secondary School place
Please may we remind Year 6 parents that they need to submit a secondary transfer application by 2 November 2015 for it to be counted as an on-time application. The link to the on-line process is below:
https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/cms/content/secondary-school-applications
We understand from the Local Authority that at the start of this week there were 6 families at Stadhampton School who had not yet completed this process.

Coming into school in the morning
As a village school we highly value the role we play in the village community, especially the strong links we have with parents and the enormous support we receive. However, as our class sizes increase over time, rooms can become congested and noisy first thing in the morning due to the sheer number of people (adults and children) in a small space and this can delay the start of the school day. We encourage parents of children in KS2 (ie Classes 2 and 3) to send their children into school independently whenever possible. Where there is a need to accompany your child into class it would be appreciated if this could be done discreetly so that the morning can get off to a calm and quiet start.
We recognise that there are occasions when parents and carers do need to speak with a teacher and the following, which is taken directly from our School Prospectus, is intended to provide some guidance. ‘We should like to stress that parents are always welcome to come into school to see their child’s work or talk to the teacher. However, to ensure that the start of the school day is not delayed, we prefer this to be at the end of the school day whenever possible and by appointment.’
We hope you appreciate this situation and we thank you, in anticipation, for your support in this.

Tell Us What You Think Forms
It is not too late to return feedback forms about our catering provision if you have not done so already. Thank you.

Newsletter for week ending 9th October 2015

Goodbye
We said a sad goodbye to Charlie Hackett as he left Stadhampton School on Friday 2nd October to start his new school in Chinnor. We wish Charlie the very best of luck in his new school and hope the transition goes very smoothly for him.

MyMaths
Last school year, pupils were introduced to MyMaths. Years 1-6 were sent a letter and a log in – so that they can access these online maths activities at home. Children in Years 2-4 will be bringing home their log-in details again and we hope that more pupils will be able to have a go. Please be aware that there is an issue with Mac devices, and it will not work with this (resource interface) system. We have been informed that MyMaths needs Adobe Flash.
Teachers had set homework activities before the summer holidays and we have extended the time in which to do these in the hope that more pupils will complete them. As the school has invested money into MyMaths, which is widely used by other schools, we do hope that as many pupils as possible will use this opportunity to further their maths skills in a fun way. If you continue to have an access problem please let your child’s class teacher know. Thank you.

Tell Us What You Think Forms
Carillion, who manage the school catering service, have provided us with forms for parents, along with their children, to complete about having school meals at Stadhampton School. Although the form was drawn up to specifically find out more about why children choose or do not choose to have free school meals under the Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme (for Reception, Year 1 & Y2 children), Carillion have asked for feedback from all families. Thank you.

Dates Reminder
We are still awaiting some reply slips for Parents Consultation Evening appointments and would like to remind parents and carers that such appointments are on a ‘first come first served’ basis. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to check the Diary Dates section of the newsletter and this week we have provided advance notice of key events in December!

Booktime
All children in Reception have been given a free book pack this week to share and enjoy with their family and friends. Booktime is run by the independent charity Book Trust and is supported by Arts Council England via the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Christmas Holiday Sports Course at Stadhampton School
Michael Hopkins, a qualified PE teacher, will be leading a 1-day Christmas Holiday Sports Course at Stadhampton School on Monday 21st December. The cost is £10 for the day and bookings can be made directly by e-mailing m.hopkins07@hotmail.com or via Mrs Hopkins in the school office. These sports courses are very popular and early booking is advised.

Happy OCTOBER Birthday to: Wyatt Bullock, Laila Burnell, Ella Fulker, Mia Gravett, Jake Jones, Sophy Mercer, Oliver Parkes, Ellie Payne, Lewis Payne, Harvey Saunders and Ellie Walker.

During OCTOBER we are focusing on the core value of RESPONSIBILITY

Chair of Governors

Jason Hector, stepped down as Chair of Governors at the Governing Body meeting on Monday 28th September. Mr Hector has been Chair of our Governing Body since December 2010 and on behalf of all pupils, parents and staff we would like to thank him for his commitment and leadership of the Governing Body over this period. We are delighted that Mr Hector is willing to continue as an active member of the Governing Body and will work closely with Sara Wright, who has agreed to be our new Chair. Paul Gravett has kindly agreed to take on the role of Vice Chair from Sara Wright who has held the post for the last couple of years.

At Stadhampton School we strongly believe that the role of the governing board is absolutely key to the effectiveness of our school. Time and time again Ofsted (the national inspection body for schools) has noted that the most effective schools demonstrate effective leadership and management - including by the governing body.
