General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Regulations

The GDPR is Europe's new framework for data protection laws – it replaces the previous 1995 data protection directive, which current UK law is based upon. The new regulations come into force on May 25, 2018.

Privacy Notice

To comply with the new regulations we have to provide parents with a new Privacy Notice which details the categories of information we hold about pupils, the legal basis for collecting information, who we share it with eg, Department for Education (DfE) and the LA, and why there is a need to share information. A copy of our new Privacy Notice is attached to this newsletter and has also been uploaded to the school website.

Parental Consent Forms

We recently sent home permission forms for parents to complete in order to provide us with the necessary consent needed to comply with the new regulations for Copyright Permission, Internet Access, Photographs, Sex Education, Data Exchange and local School Visits. Also the form contained an agreement which allows us to continue to send the School Newsletter by e-mail. Thank you to the vast majority of parents who have signed the forms and returned them to us. We would be grateful for other families to please sign and return these forms as soon as possible. Please let us know if for any reason you feel unable to provide consent for the items mentioned on the form or you have mislaid your form. Thank you.

New School Meals Menu from 4 June 2018

A reminder that the new three week menu which will start from 4 June has been uploaded to the school website and includes a third, lighter, option for the summer months.

Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who purchased books and stationery items from the book sale this week. We shall let you know the amount of free books that the school was able to add to class libraries by way of commission once the final totals have been confirmed.

Partnership Swimming Gala

Our annual partnership swimming gala between ourselves, Chalgrove, Ewelme, Lewknor and RAF Benson schools, was held at Thame pool on Tuesday. The Stadhampton swimming team of; Billy, Issy, Sam, Olivia, Lorenzo, Albie, Jem, Archie, Elizabeth, Ella, Isabel and May were magnificent and were the winning team!! Fantastic news and congratulations to all! Mrs Singleton, who accompanied them, said they were a real credit to themselves and to our school. Great news!

Quad Kids

On Thursday morning a group of our Year 3 and 4 children braved the rain to represent Stadhampton at the partnership Quadkids event at Chalgrove School. After competing in four events - a sprint, long run, long jump and vortex throw, the points were added together and we won! A very big well done to all who took part; the girls team were Bella, Mia, Morgan and Cianna and the boys team Casey, Peter, Harvey and Freddie. Thank you to all who supported the children either by transporting them to the event or being there during the morning.

Class 3’s Visit to Ewelme Park.

On Wednesday, Class 3 went to Ewelme Park for an educational trip about the estate and its history. We were amazed to learn how Henry VIII had hunted on the grounds and that real Roman coins were found under a horse-chestnut tree there! We had a tour of the farm on foot and then on a trailer pulled by a tractor. We also learnt about birds of prey, some of which are: merlins (which are part of the falcon family), kestrels (which are also part of the falcon family) and owls. We saw three types of owl: the barn owl, little owl and the tawny owl. The last bird that we saw was the guardian of the Tower of London - the raven. Last but not least, we went to an enormous pond where we found newts, pond spiders (which some of us didn’t enjoy!), tadpoles, pond skaters and slugs. We really enjoyed our day and were very grateful for our invite!

Congratulations to Stadhampton Ex-Pupils

We are pleased to congratulate our ex-pupils who, we understand, have gained success in securing key roles from September; Abby is going to be Head Girl, Thea and Ella will be senior prefects and Owen and Lola will be prefects. We know there is a lot of tough competition for these roles and would like to congratulate them all.

Advance notice  - School Photographs!

We have decided to trial a company called Fishpole for school photographs this year. Their website is www.fishpolephotography.co.uk and they are a local company based in Thame. Their approach is different –“a child-focused, relaxed method which engages each individual.” Wherever possible (weather permitting) their photographs are taken outdoors in the school grounds.

We have asked this company to take Year Group photographs for the first time this year as an experiment to see whether this is something that parents would like to purchase. The year group photographs will be taken on Thursday 14 June and the usual individual photographs, photographs of siblings, etc will be taken on Friday 21 September.

Please let Mrs Hopkins know if for any reason, you do not want your child to be included.

After School Clubs

Many pupils have enjoyed the after school cookery, karate and multisports clubs this term. We are very grateful to Mr Ventham, Mr King and Mr Berry for running them for us.

Next term the same group of pupils will continue in their karate club and there are opportunities for pupils in Reception –Y6 to join the Multisports ASC and for pupils aged 8 or over to join the Archery ASC. Letters for sign up to these clubs, detailing the cost, dates and times were sent home to pupils earlier this week.

PTA News:

Thank you to everyone who came along to the Quiz Night last Friday.  We raised £250, a great result!

Thank you to everyone who helped organise the evening and in particular to Carol Holmes, Vicky Venner and Charlotte Hector for sorting the bar and food. Thank you also to Mr and Mrs Manzie for adjudicating, marking and judging the play dough creations!

Last but not least, a massive thank you to Georgina Wiggins for putting the quiz together - without her time and effort we would not have had such a successful evening.

Our next PTA committee meeting will be on Wednesday 13 June at The Crown at 8pm. All welcome!

Cake Club

Thank you to Justine and George for the amazing cakes provided for last week’s cake draw. Well done to Mya and Elizabeth for winning them. This week’s prize is being provided by Ame M. Thank you Ame and good luck to everyone!

SATs Tests

Congratulations to our Year 6 pupils who seem to have coped with their SATs very well during this week. They demonstrated stamina and focus but were visibly relieved at the end of the last test! Thank you to all members of the Governing Body who have been in school frequently this week to help with the administration of the SATs. A reminder that annual tests continue into next week for many other year groups.

New School Meals Menu from 4 June 2018

Food & More have now provided us with a new three week menu which will start from 4 June. As a means of providing as much variety and choice for all children, they are introducing a three-option menu, the traditional meat and vegetarian options along with a third lighter option for the summer months. This is a strategy which has proved popular with other local authorities. They hope that this change may encourage those pupils who don’t currently take a school lunch, to try one as well as providing new and more varied options for their regular customers. Copies of the new 3 options menu have been uploaded to the school website.

LITTLE BEARS NEWS:

Our Little Bears continue to love exploring with different sensory materials and water.  Our sensory tables will be filled with potting soil, dried beans, sunflower seeds, and grass seeds over the next few weeks as we explore the theme ‘growing.’ We look forward to planting our own sunflowers in the garden and measuring how tall they will become, keeping a daily check on them and making sure we care for our plants. Our science and nature area has come to life and we continue to enjoy observing how well our now little froglets are doing.  After half term we will have a very special delivery in the post of 5 little caterpillars to add to our nature area.

Message from the Governing Body to All Parents

Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation.  Thank you also to the Governing Body for all their hard work on this topic over the last year and a half, and to the staff and teachers at our school for their consideration of the issues and opportunities surrounding the potential to become an Academy and to join the Acer Multi-Academy Trust.

We can confirm that our consultation and due diligence processes did come to an end on March 16 and at the Governors meeting on 19 March it was confirmed that Stadhampton Primary School would like to become part of the Acer Multi Academy Trust.

On March 26 the Acer Trust Board met and we are very pleased to say that the Trustees, following their own due diligence, have agreed to extend a formal invitation to Stadhampton Primary School to join the Acer Trust.

A formal resolution for Stadhampton School to progress to Academy status and a second resolution for Stadhampton School to join the Acer Trust having completed all due diligence and consultation works were discussed and approved at the Governing Body meeting on 30 April.

Following the extensive analysis that we have undertaken this does feel like the best outcome for the School.  The months ahead will be exciting and interesting and we look forward to working with you to continue to shape the future of our really wonderful school.

Forest School

Please could we remind parents that all children must wear long trousers and a long sleeved top for their Forest School sessions.  Even in the warmer weather, short sleeve t-shirts are not suitable as they do not protect arms and legs from nettles and scratches from branches etc.

Change to the normal school menu on Thursday 17 May

The normal school menu will be changed on Thursday 17 May when Food and More will offer a celebration lunch to mark the wedding of Megan Markel and Harry Windsor. The menu will be :

Baked British Pork Sausages or Celebration Roast

Parsley Buttered Jersey Royal Potatoes

Fine Green Beans and Herby Roasted Tomatoes

Banana Loaf with Cream and Summer Berry Jewels

This menu has been inspired by Meghan and Harry’s passion for all things British and the

provenance of food. Their Wedding Breakfast will have the utmost emphasis on showcasing the very

best of British ingredients.

To reflect their values this menu has been created to appeal to our children using British, locally

sourced products for the main course.

It is rumoured that the couple have requested a banana wedding cake because of Harry’s childhood love of banana cake and Meghan’s love of banana puddings!

This menu option will be free of charge to pupils in Reception and Class 1 and children who qualify for Free School Meals. Please could payment be made (£2.20) on Monday next week for any other children who would like to order a school meal on that day. Thank you.

PTA News:

It promises to be a fun evening with a variety of quiz questions for all the family.  Please see Georgina Wiggins for tickets outside Class 1 each morning.

Our next PTA meeting is on Wednesday 13th June, The Crown, 8pm.  All welcome.

LITTLE BEARS NEWS:

This week we have focused on the traditional tale of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. We have been acting out the story and making sure we have a loud giant’s voice booming out, “Fee fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman.” We shall be playing a game to see if we can guess who is saying the words whilst having our eyes closed.

We will be sequencing the story and mark making to say what is happening in some of the pictures. For our maths we will be working on ordering beanstalk leaves and measuring the giant’s footprint. We shall also be seeing how many beans we can hold in our hand and carefully counting them. In the story we are sharing at preschool, Jack exchanged the cow for 5 magic beans. We will see if the children will be able to hold 5 or more. We shall also be making a seed collage and trying to make the beanstalk reach the clouds. The Little Bears found some “magic beans” in our garden and we look forward to planting them to see if we can grow a beanstalk!

Community News

My last session as Youth Club leader and Chair will be on 18th July. I have really enjoyed my time at Stadhampton Youth Club but life is busy with two jobs and two boys!
I am looking for someone to hand over the position to. The children love youth club, we have on average 20 children per session. We run on the first and third Wednesday of every month between 6.30-7.30pm in the church We are members of Oxfordshire Youth who have been very supportive. There is a small but wonderful group of volunteers who help each week.
Please contact me if you would like more information I would hate to see it stop after everyone’s hard work and I’m sure the kids would miss it!
Many thanks Anna (Thomas’s mum) 07908230072
