Newsletter No 5 / 22nd May 2009

Cycle Training
Cycle training will begin for all Year 6 pupils who have not already completed it on Tuesday 2nd June. Many thanks to our volunteer parent trainers, Mrs Leighfield, Mrs Scragg and Mrs Vale for giving up their time to facilitate this opportunity.

Learning Platform
This is the final week for sending paper copies of the newsletter to those families who are able to receive it electronically. We are pleased that 40 out of our 49 families in school have now sent in their e-mail details. We would still be very pleased to receive e-mail addresses from parents who have not provided one already, in order to further increase the percentage of newsletters and other correspondence which can be sent electronically.

Artsmark Award
We have recently received notification that our Artsmark award has been revalidated for another three years. This is the recognition of the commitment we have to the arts and reflects the high standard of artwork created by pupils throughout the school. Well done to everyone and many thanks to Mrs Sutton who co-ordinated and compiled our application.

Events in Term 6
During Term 6 we have a number of exciting events planned. These include two themed weeks in June:
• “Focus on Africa” 8th-12th June, during which we will welcome several visitors into school, including Jonathan’s Jungle Roadshow which will provide a professional “animal encounter” workshop for all pupils. Many thanks to the PTA for helping to financially support this event.
• “Healthy Week” 15th – 19th June, during which we will have a number of professionally lead events to inspire us all to be active and lead healthy lifestyles. PE kit should be kept in school every day that week!

Easy2name labels
We have been asked to remind parents of the opportunity to order packs of labels which can be stuck onto clothing without a need for sewing or ironing, along with the additional benefit of earning funds for Stadhampton School. Simply go to the website www.easy2name.com and use the code Stadhampton Primary School OX44 when placing an order.

Little Bears News
This week Little Bears have been very busy with bugs- going on bug hunts, making bug masks and doing lots of pictures for their bug books! They also enjoyed making fruit smoothies. A Race Night is planned for Saturday 27th June. More details are now available from Nikki.

Cycling Proficiency
Parents of pupils wishing to take part in this training opportunity should now book their place please with Mrs Hopkins. The first session begins on Tuesday 2nd June.

School Meals

Please could I remind everyone that payment for school meals must be kept separate from other payments for swimming, trips, etc. Thank you.
Amendments to Menus: Please could parents note that unfortunately due to limited oven space, we will offer a Vegetarian Pasta Bake in place of the other vegetarian option on Tuesday and Friday of Week 1, and Friday of Week 3.

Learning Platform

We will shortly be launching the learning platform to parents, and will e-mail usernames and passwords to households whose e-mail addresses we have. If you haven't done so already, please send your e-mail address to office.2455@stadhampton.oxon.sch.uk to make sure you don't miss out! The school governors are already using the Learning Platform to share documents including meeting minutes and actions, to collaborate on communications like the recent school structure letter, and to discuss general issues.

Orinoco Family Learning Workshop on 23rd June 2009
We have, in liaison with Extended Services, arranged for a free family workshop to take place at Stadhampton School from 3.15-4.15pm on Tuesday 23rd June. Orinoco is a company which provides arts and crafts workshops using recycled materials and sells additional art and craft materials. The workshop, which will have a printing focus, is open to all families but, as it is a Family Learning initiative supported by Extended Services, children must be accompanied by an adult. The workshop will be led by experienced adults and this one-off opportunity is free. In addition, Orinoco will be selling recycled art and crafts materials but this is, of course, entirely optional. We do hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. Nearer the time we will circulate response slips to enable us to best cater for numbers.

Friday 22nd May
At the end of the afternoon on Friday 22nd May some of our pupils will be presenting aspects of out of school activities they attend. These include gymnastics, first aid and karate. The event will be held in the hall, starting at 2.50pm and finishing before the end of the school day. Any parents/families who would like to join us would be most welcome and may arrive from 2.40pm.

Newsletter No 3 / 8th May

PTA News
Clothes Recycling – we have now confirmed that the clothes recycling managed to raise £91 so thank you once again to all who donated bags.

Car Boot Sale – a huge thank you to everyone who made cakes and came along and supported us on the day; thankfully the rain held off until 11.00am so we were able to sell all the plants and enough drinks and cakes to make over £150 profit.

Chiltern Chase – we are now confirming final runners and will be sending out a communal sponsorship form next week to all parents asking for donations as an option to sponsoring individuals who are running. Runners will be receiving a letter and sponsorship form from PTA for further donations or they can pop into the School office as Mrs Hopkins has some spare copies. If you are running please let us know and don’t forget to register on the official Chiltern Chase web site.

Cycling Proficiency
We are grateful to Mrs Leighfield, Mrs Scragg and Mrs Vale for offering to provide cycling proficiency training again this year. The test is booked for Tuesday 7th July at 1.30pm, with training sessions scheduled for Tuesday 2nd June, 16th June, 23rd June and 30th June. Initially this opportunity will be offered to the Year 6 pupils who have not already completed this course. Participants must have a roadworthy bicycle which is the correct size for them and a cycling helmet which will be worn during all practical training “on” or “off” the road. The maximum number of pupils able to take part is 12. Parents of pupils wishing to take part in this training opportunity should now book their place please with Mrs Hopkins.

Guinness World Record Attempt at Skipping 30th April 2009
On Thursday 30th April we participated in a mass World record skipping attempt in conjunction with Edventure Ltd. All pupils and staff took part in the event and 68 pupil names were submitted. Edventure now inform us that a total of 22,875 skippers took part and that it looks very likely that jointly, we have broken the skipping record. They are currently in the process of authenticating the information with Guiness World Record officials and this may take a couple of weeks. We will update you when we know the official outcome! Many thanks also for all donations to Alder Hay Children’s Hospital. We collected a total of £49 which will be sent directly to the hospital.

Reminders:

• Several Class 3 pupils still to return permission slips and payment for visit to The Tower of London on 19th May
• Voluntary contributions for swimming transport for Class 2 pupils for this term
• Please e-mail the school office at office.2455@stadhampton.oxon.sch.uk so that we have an e-mail address for as many families as possible in order to send the newsletter electronically and provide parents with access to the Learning Platform.
