Newsletter No 6 - 8th April 2011

Message from the Governing Body:
We are delighted to announce that Paul Gravett has been appointed, unopposed, as a new parent governor with effect from Monday 4th April 2011. Paul, whose daughter, Ella is in the Foundation Stage Class, will bring a wealth of expertise to the Governing Body and we are very pleased to welcome him.
Regards, Jason Hector (Chair of Governors)

School Meals
We are pleased to provide each family, via book bags, with a copy of the new Summer/Autumn Menu for 2011 which comes into operation on 2nd May. This will also be posted onto the Learning Platform as soon as it becomes available. For the 27th and 28th April there is a special menu associated with the Royal Wedding as follows:
27th April: Choice of “Royal” Roast chicken or veggie toad in the hole, with celebration ice-cream for dessert
28th April: Breaded fish or veggie country bake, with apple crumble and custard for dessert
Please remember to pay for school meals on the first day of each week. The cost remains at £2.05 per day and cheques should be made payable to Oxfordshire County Council with Stadhampton School written on the back, please, in line with OCC requirements.
Many thanks.

SATs Tests
KS1 SATs for Year 2 pupils will take place throughout May. SATs for KS2 pupils follow a set national timetable and take place during the week beginning 9th May. Pupils in Years 3, 4 and 5 also have tests in May. We politely request that dentist appointments, holiday requests, etc are not made during this time.

PTA Message
The dates for PTA events have been added to the diary dates list at the end of this newsletter.

Swimming at the Abbey Sports Centre

Class 2 pupils will be swimming at the Abbey Sports Centre on Monday 9th, 16th, 23rd May and then also on Monday 13th June. We would, as always, appreciate a “voluntary” contribution of £4 for these sessions towards the cost of the coach transport.
Class 3 pupils will be swimming on Monday 20 and 27th June, and then Monday 4, 11th and 18th July, a total of 5 sessions. Cheques for swimming should be made payable to Stadhampton School.

Storytelling Chair Event
During the afternoon of Wednesday 27th April we are holding an event to celebrate the creation of our wonderful storytelling chair. We have invited members of the Peers family to attend and ‘cut the ribbon’ followed by storytelling events led by the cast of Daylight Theatre. The local press are expected to cover this event so if there are any parents who do not wish their child/ren to be included in a press photograph please let the school office know at the beginning of the day on Wednesday 27th.

Royal Wedding Hat Competition!
All children are invited to create their own hat to be worn during our lunch, in the style of a street party, on Thursday 28th April. The competition will be judged by the children with a prize for each class winner.

After-School Club Letters
Letters explaining the days, times and costs of the after-school clubs which will run after Easter in Terms 5 and 6 should have been sent home, via book bags, earlier this week.

School Council Challenge

This competition is open to all pupils. The challenge is to create a vehicle which can transport an Easter Egg safely around an obstacle course which includes ramps, slides and bumpy ground. The egg must remain intact and be visible at all times. If you would like to enter the competition, please bring in the vehicle you have made on Thursday 28th April for testing in the afternoon! The School Council will provide the eggs. It costs 50p to enter the competition and the money raised will go towards the new outdoor play equipment. There will be two prizes – one for the best functioning vehicle and one for the one which looks the most attractive! It is entirely optional to decorate the vehicle as a royal wedding carriage! The vehicle can be made from any materials and should be designed and constructed by the children, although we appreciate that some adult help may be required.

Premier Sports Easter Course

A reminder that the Premier Sports Group are running a holiday course here from Monday 18th April through to Thursday 21st April from 9-3pm for participating pupils. It is hoped that the majority of the course will be spent outdoors, weather permitting.

Little Bears
We will be celebrating the Royal Wedding by making flags and bunting, making Royal crowns and even designing a wedding dress fit for a princess!
We will also be doing some baking, making yummy mini “wedding cakes”
