Week ending 31 March 2017

Assembly Visitors

We are delighted to be having two special assemblies next week; one from the author Tim Bradley and the other from a representative of the Stoke Mandeville ‘Wheels at Work’ charity.

April 3rd - Tim Bradley is a local author and television producer. On Monday 3rd April, he will be talking to the children about his book “Arnie Jenks and the House of Strangers”, including what inspired him to write the book and the processes he goes through to be a published author.

April 4th – “Wheels at Work” is an awareness-raising and fundraising campaign to support spinal research at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. A letter giving further details of the assembly and opportunities for children to spend some time in an appropriately-sized wheelchair, will be sent home separately tomorrow. Attached to the letter is a permission slip which must be signed and returned to school by Monday 3rd April please, in order for children to use the wheelchairs.

MEERKAT Champion of the Week

We are delighted to share the names of our "MEERKAT Champion of the Week" award in each class last week as follows;

Reception – Jake M

Class 1 – Jude B

Class 2 – Harvey S

Class 3 – Albie C

Well done to you all!

Comic Relief

Thank you to everyone who paid £1 (or more) to wear their school uniform back to front for Comic Relief last Friday. This raised £93.45. Ella, Tillie and Juliana took it upon themselves on Saturday to make a load of cakes and then take them around the village (to people they know) asking if they would like to buy them to raise money for Comic Relief.  This very kind and enterprising thought raised a magnificent £60. Well done girls! We have therefore sent a total of £153.45 to Comic Relief from Stadhampton Primary School. A huge thank you to everyone.

After School Clubs

Next week brings us to the end of all this term’s After School Clubs (Chess club has already finished) and we would especially like to thank Brian Goddard (Aisulu’s dad) and all the Duke of Edinburgh students from Icknield Community College for their hard work and dedication. We know that the children who have attended these sessions have really enjoyed them!  It has been wonderful to see so many former pupils returning to school to carry out voluntary work here. We wish them all well in the successful completion of their D of E Award.

Next term we continue to offer Multisports for pupils in Year 1-6 with a sports coach from Oxford Active. We are also offering a drama club run by Mrs Hutchence, a qualified drama teacher; the initial series of sessions are for Key Stage 2 children and this will be followed by a series of sessions for Key Stage 1 children. Information about Multisports club and the first session of Drama club were sent home, via book bags, earlier this week.

We are currently waiting to hear from our other club providers for confirmation of an art club and will inform you as soon as we know more.

QuadKids

On Wednesday afternoon Stadhampton hosted the CLOSER partnership QuadKids event. Quadkids is an athletics based competition and each competitor has to throw a vortex howler, do a standing long jump, a 75m sprint and 600m long distance run. Including Stadhampton there were four schools taking part. Teams of 5 boys and 5 girls from each school competed. Despite a rather cloudy afternoon, luckily the rain held off. The overall winners were Chalgrove with Stadhampton School coming second. Thomas Cove came 2nd overall within the boys and four of the girls came 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th. Thank you very much to all members of staff who helped the event run smoothly and well done to all who took part.

Communications

In order to improve communication links between school and parents we thought that it might be useful to clarify the ways we communicate in case not all parents are aware of all of the different ways there are to access information. We hope that you will find this useful:

Chess Resource

Mr Goddard, who leads our Chess Club, would like to share this resource with other parents as it has some very useful basic training that would suit our level of children very well. This can be accessed at https://en.lichess.org/

Red Nose Day/Comic Relief on Friday 24 March

We would like to support Comic Relief by inviting children to come to school wearing their school uniform (or at least the top part of it!) “back to front” on Friday 24th March. They can also wear a Red Nose or other red Comic Relief “accessory” during the day and we suggest £1 donation per child – all of which will go to Comic Relief. We appreciate that we have had two very successful “dressing-up” days for charity recently and that having a third one so soon could develop into “dressing-up fatigue”!
