Week ending 26 January 2018

SODC food waste trucks need a name – vote now!

Residents of South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) are being invited to vote for their favourite names put forward by local schoolchildren for a new fleet of food waste recycling trucks. Local schools were invited to participate and from the dozens of names suggested by the children across the area, SODC has whittled them down to ten names and one of the names was suggested by a pupil at Stadhampton School!

Residents are being asked to choose their top three names out of the ten names and the most popular will be printed onto the district’s new food waste trucks which will be seen out and about carrying weekly food waste collections. The children whose suggested name gets the most votes will scoop £150 book tokens for their school and a swimming pass for their family. Our contribution to the list is “Waste Warrior”.

To vote please go to:

In addition, residents can look out for how to vote on the council’s social media channels:

·         Twitter: @SouthOxon / @WhiteHorseDC

·         Facebook: facebook.com/southoxfordshire

Voting will close on Friday 16th February. Thank you.

Sportshall Athletics Tournament

A reminder that the rescheduled Athletics tournament for Class 3 pupils will now take place on Thursday 8 February from 11am until 1.15pm, so all pupils will need to take a packed lunch with them. We have held on to the payments parents have already paid in readiness for the new date.

National Storytelling Week

Letters detailing the arrangements for National Storytelling Week were sent home via book bags earlier this week. Please think about coming in on the afternoon of Wednesday 31 January to tell/read a story to a small group of children. Thank you.

Head Lice

A parent has reported that despite treatments to her own children’s hair, they keep being reinfected. Please could ALL parents, and particularly parents in Class 3, check their children’s hair for head lice and treat if necessary. This is the only way that this problem can be cleared up quickly. Thank you.

PTA News:

Film Night

Thank you to everyone who supported the PTA film night last week.  The evening raised over £150 for PTA funds.

We hope to hold another film night later in the year, so please watch this space for details.

Race Night, Friday 2nd February, 7pm for first race at 7.30pm, St John’s Church

The PTA and Little Bears will be holding a Race Night to raise funds for both the school and pre-school on Friday 2nd February.  For those who don’t know what a Race Night is, pre-recorded horse races are played onto the big screen.  You are then able to place bets on which horse will win - if your horse wins, you win!

It promises to be a fun evening (over 18s only), so please see Melanie Gravett or Debbie Bradford for tickets.  Tickets are £7.50 each.

Our next PTA meeting is now on Wednesday 14th March, 8pm, The Crown.

Cake Club

A huge thank you to Craig Thomson for the lovely cake on Friday. It was won by Emily in Year 4 who very kindly donated it to Mia – what a treat for the weekend! This week’s cake is very kindly being provided by Claire Cowlard. Many thanks.
