Class Curriculum Overview ‘Jigsaws’

Overviews of the curriculum for each class for this Spring Term, presented in the format of a ‘jigsaw’ to reflect our integrated curriculum are now on the school website, under the ‘Classes section’.

Coming into school in the morning

As a village school we highly value the role we play in the village community, especially the strong links we have with parents and the enormous support we receive. However, rooms can become congested and noisy first thing in the morning due to the sheer number of people (adults and children) in a small space and this can delay the start of the school day. We particularly encourage parents of children in KS2 (ie Classes 2 and 3) to send their children into school independently whenever possible, so that children start to take responsibility for themselves. They should be able to carry their own lunchbox, hand in any forms, money, etc without the need for parents to come into the classroom with them every morning. Where there is a need to accompany your child into class it would be appreciated if this could be done discreetly so that the morning can get off to a calm and quiet start and registration can take place promptly at 9am.

We recognise that there are occasions when parents and carers do need to speak with a teacher and the following, which is taken directly from our School Prospectus, is intended to provide some guidance. ‘At Stadhampton Primary School we are keen to engage with the families of the children and operate an “open door” policy where parents can talk to teachers about their children; all we ask is that these discussions are arranged at a mutually convenient time for both teacher and parent. We hope you appreciate this situation and we thank you, in anticipation, for your support in this.

Swimming at the Abbey Sports Centre for Class 2 pupils

As always, we are most grateful to receive a ‘voluntary contribution’ from parents of £2 per child per swimming session towards the transport costs (currently £75 per visit). Cheques for swimming contributions (£10 in total) should be made payable to Stadhampton School. Thank you to the parents who have already made a contribution. It is very much appreciated.

Sportshall Athletics Tournament

As parents of pupils in Class 3 were aware last Friday, unfortunately the tournament was cancelled at late notice due to the breakdown of the van carrying the specialist equipment. We are pleased to advise that this tournament has been rescheduled to take place on Thursday 8 February from 11am until 1.15pm so all pupils will need to take a packed lunch with them. We have held on to the payments parents have already paid in readiness for the new date.

Year 2 and Reception Forest School

A reminder that Forest School for Year 2 and Reception class pupils will take place on Wednesday next week.  Year 2 will be in the morning and Reception in the afternoon.

LITTLE BEARS NEWS:

We have been listening to and enjoying songs with a repetitive nature, such as 5 currant buns, 12345 once I caught a fish and other number songs. Big Club have worked on numerals up to twenty this week with some of our little ones going above this too! We have also looked at patterns and shapes in the world around us and seen if we can make links between our activities and the things around us for example triangle toast; we have also used marks and linked them to symbols and numerals.

As the weather gets colder we still love being outdoors, we have been climbing, running, jumping and splashing in puddles, the children in the forest area continue to love digging and playing with mud and water - lots of yummy mud pies!
