Newsletter for week ending 3 November 2017

Happy NOVEMBER Birthday to: Beau Burnell, Keegan Denton, Jack Fulker, Bella Jones, Harry Thompson and Maggie Woodwards.

During November we are focusing on the core value of UNITY

Poppies

Poppies, snap bands, wrist bands (2 types), clip on poppies and pencils decorated with poppies are on sale in school. The snap bands and wrist bands are always very popular and we hope that pupils will pay a minimum contribution of £1 for these items towards this very worthwhile cause.

Miss Raval Update

We have endeavoured to keep you informed regarding Miss Raval's current absence and are now able to provide you with an update.

Miss Raval continues to be signed off work until at least 20th November and we have made plans to retain Mrs Wahid's services in the interim. We wish Miss Raval well with her on-going recovery and will update you again when we have received further news ourselves. In the meantime we are very pleased that Mrs Wahid has been able to provide continuous cover in Class 3.

School Photographs

Proofs of the school photographs taken recently were sent home to families via book bags earlier this week. The deadline for returning orders through school is the end of the school day on Wednesday 8 November. Once the orders have been collected from school at 8am on Thursday 9 November any late orders will have to be sent by families directly to the School Photography Company. Thank you.

Meerkat Champion of the week

Class 1: Cara G

Class 2: Laila B

Class 3: Archie D

Congratulations to you all!

Holiday Absences

A further reminder for all families that regular and punctual attendance is essential for each child to progress and make the most of the opportunities that are available to them in school. Attendance is also an important performance indicator for the school and a limiting judgement by Ofsted. Since September 2013 headteachers have been unable to authorise family holidays in term time. Only in exceptional circumstances (ie bereavement or close family wedding) may be considered for authorisation. Any unauthorised absence is required to be recorded as such and this data is required to be made available to the Local Authority, who may choose to follow up or take additional action.

An information sheet entitled ‘Every School Day Counts’ is attached to this newsletter and a paper copy was sent home via book-bags either when we broke up for half term or this week for your reference. We have a proud record of high attendance and together we aim to maintain this! Thank you.

Swimming at the Abbey Sports Centre for Class 3 pupils

As always, we ask parents for a ‘voluntary contribution’ towards the cost of the transport to the Abbey Sports Centre of £2 per child per swimming session. Cash or cheques please are welcome and cheques should be made payable to Stadhampton Primary School. Your financial support for swimming lessons is very much appreciated. Thank you.

BBC Children in Need 17.11.17

The School Council, supported by Mrs Wahid, have been thinking about ideas for supporting the annual Children in Need appeal. This year we will be having a “Wacky Hair Day” on Friday 17th November. All children (and adults!) are invited to create a wacky hair style for the day and donate £1 each to Children in Need. Be as creative as you like – the School Council suggest anything from pigtails to a bird’s nest! Gel, wigs and hats are allowed on the day but pupils are reminded to wear school uniform. Happy Creativity!

Chedworth Roman Villa

“On Wednesday Class 2 visited Chedworth Roman Villa. It was interesting when we made Roman medicine with Lucy, she taught us about slaves. None of us wanted to be one! We would only be a slave if we could break free! Romans prayed and worshipped their Gods at the temple. We also found out how Romans kept themselves clean! It was exciting and we learnt a lot.”

Wreath Evening - Monday 11th December, Village Hall (Church), 7pm

We will be holding our Wreath Evening on Monday 11th December.  Tickets are £16 each and include mulled wine and mince pies.

This is a great opportunity to show your Christmas creative skills and make a unique door wreath for yourself or perhaps as a gift for another family member or friend.

If you would like tickets, please see Georgina Wiggins.  This event is always popular and tickets are limited due to space in the village hall, so please speak to Georgina as soon as possible if you would like to come along.

Our next PTA meeting is on Wednesday 8th November at The Crown, 8pm.  Everyone welcome.
