Newsletter for week ending 10 November 2017

The Assessment Year

As we approach our annual parents’ consultation evenings for children in Years 1 to 6, I thought it would be helpful to outline our current Assessment Year.

Formal assessment takes place three times a year; once each long term. We look forward to meeting with parents and carers at parents’ consultation evenings or review meetings this term, after the first assessments have taken place, when we can discuss early progress towards this year’s targets. You will receive a written update of progress towards these targets in the Spring Term, prior to our Work Viewing Evening in March. A further written update of progress towards targets will be sent home in the Summer Term, ahead of final reports for the year in July.

Informal assessment is an on-going process, and we operate an ‘open door’ policy as outlined in the School Prospectus: “…parents are always welcome to come into school to see their child’s work or talk to the teacher… such requests should be made for the end of the school day and by appointment.”

Appointment times for Parents’ Evenings were issued earlier this week. Please check book bags for confirmation of your allocated time.

Reception: Sidney M-F

Class 1: Leo T

Class 2: Zac H

Class 3: Lorenzo E

Congratulations to you all!

New Reading Books

We are now the proud owners of a host of new levelled reading books. We hope that children and parents alike are enjoying the variety of new books on offer, from stories about Biff, Chip and Kipper and traditional tales to non-fiction titles like “Odd Eggs” and “Finding Fossils” with many more in between.  Thank you to the PTA for their generous contribution to our new resources.

ELLI Project Assembly

Class 1 led our ELLI Project assembly this week which featured ‘Stickability Tortoise.’ They showed many activities which they ‘stick at’ such as their maths, some Rangoli patterns and Lego! Their message to the rest of the school was ‘try, try and try again’ and ‘if you keep trying you will succeed.’

Swimming at the Abbey Sports Centre for Class 3 pupils

Thank you to the parents of pupils in Class 3 who have kindly made donations towards swimming transport this term. Your financial support for swimming lessons is very much appreciated.

BBC Children in Need 17.11.17

A reminder that we will be having a “Wacky Hair Day” on Friday 17th November. All children (and adults!) are invited to create a wacky hair style for the day and donate £1 each to Children in Need. Be as creative as you like – the School Council suggest anything from pigtails to a bird’s nest! Gel, wigs and hats are allowed on the day but pupils are reminded to wear school uniform. Happy Creativity!
