Newsletter No 17 / 11th June 2010

Welcome back to everyone and in particular to Madam Brookes, who returns to school this week!

New Parent Governor
The Governing Body is very pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Wright as a new parent governor with immediate effect. Sara was the only person to put her name forward, following the resignation of Carl Mannering, so there is no requirement to hold an election! Sara has been very involved with the school over the last three years as PTA Chair and will be a valuable asset to the Governing Body.

Learning Platform

We are currently working with Research Machines in order to supply new parents with user names and passwords so that they may access the Learning Platform and individual letters will be sent to those parents as soon as possible, explaining what the LP is and how to access it. We have recently updated the calendar of events and also added a copy of the Summer/Autumn lunch menus.

Nit Alert
We are grateful to a parent for letting us know that their child had nits, which have now been treated. We would be grateful if everyone could check their child(ren’s) hair this weekend and treat if necessary, so that this problem does not spread further.

PTA Message
Summer Fete 12th June - keep everything crossed for good weather......
Thank you to those who have donated goodies and returned raffle tickets so far. Any last minute donations or return of tickets may be brought into school on Friday or please phone Sara on 07831 727764 to arrange when to drop them off. Please ensure all your raffle ticket stubs are returned by Friday morning as we will not have time after that to check and include them.

Budding football players – we need people over 16 to be goalies for 20 mins or so on the ‘Beat the Goalie’ stall so please come along on the day and do a stint on the stall. You might not have made it to the World Cup but you can still do your bit for England!

Homemade cakes - please bring your delicious homemade cakes along to the Fete on Saturday any time from 11.30 until 1.30pm.

All cress animal and umbrella competition entries need to be entered by 2.30pm at the Fete; entry fee is 50p.

Gazebos – if anyone has a spare gazebo to keep off the sunshine drizzle (!) we would be very grateful if you would bring it along between 1130 and 1300 to school on Saturday to set it up and then collect at 4pm.

Chiltern Chase 13th June – so far I have heard from the following runners who are running on behalf of Little Bears, the School, or both. Please sponsor them to keep them going; forms can be found at school. The runners so far are: Nathan Manzie, Marc Oakley, Karen Amery, Nige Wright, Lucy & Dave Ellis, Hayley McMahon, Jane Marshall, Julie Pattison, Karen and/or Dave Cove, and Debbie Bradford. Apologies if I have missed anyone. See you there on Sunday.

Use of our swimming pool
We are still awaiting the results of the microbiological test and the return of some warm weather. Please continue to send swimming kit into school each day.

After School Clubs
After school clubs which began in Term 5 for participating pupils will continue in Term 6 as follows (already paid for with Term 5):
Hockey on Mondays until 4pm – last session on 28th June
Multisports on Wednesdays until 4pm – last session on 30th June
Netball on Wednesdays until 4pm – last session on 30th June
Football on Thursdays until 4.15pm – last session on 15th July

Little Bears News
The Butterflies decided to break out over half term! Hayley popped in on Thursday to find four fluttering around in the net, therefore released them into the garden to ensure best chance of survival. Lots of photographs were taken and the children enjoyed looking at them on Tuesday.
This last term our topic is “The Seaside”; the next two weeks is “On the Sea” & “Pirates”. We are making boats to sail in the water tray and have suggested the children come dressed as Pirates!
