Newsletter for week ending 10 June 2016

Welcome back to the start of Term 6.

Happy JUNE Birthday to: Freya Clapton, Will Eaton, Ella Gravett, Alice Hindmarch, Zara Hopkins, Maya Jacobs, Natalia and Weronika Kozlowska, James Lowman, Ivy Odell, Casey Price and Ellie Wiggins.

During JUNE we are focusing on the core value of PATIENCE

Teacher Appointment

We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Mrs Nichola Stafford as our Reception teacher for one year from 1st September 2016. Mrs Stafford is a very experienced teacher and we look forward to welcoming her to the staff team to cover Mrs Humphries’ maternity leave. Mrs Stafford will be in school from time to time over the next few weeks and hopes to be here to meet her new class during the transition days.

Waiting Area at the end of the school day

We understand that there have been injuries caused to some pupils as a result of children running around and bumping into other pupils in this very busy area at the beginning and end of the school day. Children should not be climbing or standing on the seat. We ask for all parents’ co-operation in supervising their children in this area to ensure that the safety of any pupil or younger sibling is not compromised. Thank you.

Gardening Club Sale

The Gardening Club will be holding a Plant Sale after school on Friday 17th June. All proceeds made from this sale of plants will be used to buy seeds and compost for the Gardening Club going forward.

National Book Tokens Competition

Help us win £5,000 of National Book Tokens for the school library – and get £100 for yourself! Just enter the competition online, it only take a minute: http://www.nationalbooktokens.com/schools Thank you to Helen Moss-Black for sharing this with us and for entering the competition already!

Blenheim Palace Trip

On Wednesday 8th June, Reception and Class 1 had a school trip to the beautiful Blenheim Palace. We spent the morning being shown around part of the palace and learnt about the people who live there and the palace itself. After lunch we headed down to the maze and adventure playground. Luckily we all made it out of the maze and the adventure playground was fantastic! We had a brilliant day out in the sunshine and everyone had lots of their favourite memories.

PTA NEWS

Sue Bowerman- Sue has decided after 5 years to step down from the committee and being in charge of school uniform. We cannot thank Sue enough for all her hard work and dedication to the school and I think I speak for all parents in thanking her. She will be missed by all the committee. On a personal note Sue has been a huge support for me over the last 3 years that I have been chair of the committee with support, guidance, event ideas, helping at events, providing uniform for the children and donating her spare time to help paint fences etc at our clean up weekends. Thank you Sue.

In order for the PTA to keep fundraising for the school we need parents to be on the committee otherwise we cannot continue. Could you donate some of your time?  We meet once every 6 weeks to organise fundraisers for the school and to help pay for things that the school has asked for. In this academic year alone we have helped pay for:

Forest school waterproofs

Contributed towards new laptops for Class 3

Contributed to the cost of the French teacher

Improvements to the swimming pool

Contributed to some school trips

Contributed towards Robot school

New chess sets

Bookbags for all Reception children

If you would like to join the committee please speak to a committee member. A full list of active members is on the noticeboard. Thank you.

Queen’s Birthday celebrations Saturday 18th June- we are hoping to make a hamper for one of the raffle prizes at the celebration day; we still need quite a few donations to achieve this. If you can donate we are looking for, wine, beer, chocolate and gift sets (all sell by dates checked first) please put any donation into the PTA box in the school hall.

2 strips of raffle tickets have been sent home for each family to buy, raffle tickets are 50p each or £2 a strip, we have some fantastic prizes to be won and there will be a chance to purchase more on the day.

Sports night- Friday 1st July- I am still looking for volunteers to help tidy up after sports night, please speak to Georgina Wiggins if you would like to help.

Tickets for the BBQ will be on sale soon so please watch this space.

End of school disco - Thursday 14th July 6-7.30pm - look out for letters in book bags next week.

Friday Cake Club

Congratulations to Isabella Dickens, the lucky winner of the last cake before Half Term, kindly donated by Mrs Burnell.  A reminder to Mrs Kylie Smith that she is on the rota for 17th June.

Thank you for your continued support of the PTA.

PTA and School Uniform

We echo the above thanks to Sue Bowerman for managing the sale of school uniform over the last five years and for the contributions that both Mr and Mrs Bowerman have made to helping with PTA events over the years.

It would be helpful if a parent would be willing to take on the ordering and selling of school uniform on behalf of the school. The person who does this does not necessarily have to be a member of the PTA committee but it would be an advantage if it could be managed by someone who already comes into school on a regular basis or someone who has time to come into school if we let them know that there are orders waiting. Please let Mrs Hopkins know if you would be willing to take this on or would like to know more about what is required. Thank you.

Summer Safety Advice from Oxford School Health Nursing

We have been asked to pass this information to parents by the Oxfordshire School Health Nurse Team:

“As summer approaches with the promise of some good weather, please make sure your child wears sunscreen and covers their shoulders when outside – a hat is a good idea too. Please encourage children to drink plenty of water and so it will be helpful if they bring a bottle of water that they can refill during the day. Some parents put their bottle in the freezer over night to ensure their child’s drink stays cold all day. It is also during these hot spells that young people are often tempted to cool off in the river. It is not safe to play in the river which often has deceptively strong currents . We will be advising them against this and hope you will reinforce this message at home too.” Please find below some useful links:
