Newsletter
for week ending 15th April 2016
Welcome back to Term 5!
Happy APRIL Birthday to: Katende Amery, Oliver Bourne, Cianna Browning, Bobby Byrne, Isabel
Holmes, Zachary Holmes and Samuel Sundberg .
During APRIL we are focusing on the core value of
THOUGHTFULNESS
Mrs Humphries
We are delighted to
confirm that Mrs Humphries (Miss Mould before her wedding on Easter Sunday) is
expecting a baby. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Humphries and thank you for
sharing this happy news with us. Mrs Humphries will go on maternity leave when
we break up for the summer holidays on 15th July and we will be
advertising for a teacher to provide maternity cover for the Reception Class
from the beginning of September.
Class Curriculum Overviews – ‘Jigsaws’
The new
format of termly curriculum overviews for Terms 5 and 6, which comprises a
coloured ‘jig-saw’, with each coloured ‘piece’ representing a subject area,
have now been completed and uploaded to the school website under the ‘Classes’
section. Please also have a look at page 2 of each jigsaw which provides
additional important curriculum information.
Forest School Fundraising
Bookings are now
being taken for the Supper Night on Friday 6th May from 7.30 to
11.30pm at the Village Hall at St John’s Church Stadhampton. Tickets cost
£12.50 and include a buffet and desserts. Bring your own drinks!
We look forward
to your support which will help to secure our continued Forest School
provision.
Class 3’s Greek Feast
Wow! It was lovely to see the school hall
transformed into a Greek Taverna yesterday afternoon as Class 3 enjoyed their
Greek feast. We had lots of fun investigating and trying new foods. We also had
Greek music played with some of the class dancing along to music. We enjoyed it
so much that everyone had at least a second portion washed down by a glass or
two of Greek wine aka Shloer! Some of the other teachers got involved too. We
had heaps of fun and it was a day to remember for all of us.
Ella and Isabella
A big
thank you to all class 3 parents for the exquisite contributions.
I would also like to thank Mrs Wilkin for
working hard behind the scenes to ensure the children had a great Greek
experience.
Miss Raval
Rocket Science
As mentioned in a previous
newsletter, we are one of the schools who successfully applied to participate
in the Royal Horticultural Society and UK Space Agency national Rocket Science
experiment. You may have seen reference to the experiment on the television
recently.
We are looking forward to
taking part in this experiment and are awaiting the delivery of our seeds on
Monday 18th April. We will receive 100 rocket seeds that have been
in space, under the watchful eye of astronaut Tim Peake, and 100 similar rocket
seeds that have been restricted to Earth! All children in school will be
involved, growing the seeds in controlled conditions and recording observations
to input on a national database. We will update you with our progress later
during the summer term. Exciting!
UNICEF Day for Change
On Wednesday 27th
April, we will be collecting coins to support UNICEF. UNICEF work is carried
out in 192 countries and they work around the clock to protect children. A current
focus for UNICEF is to collect money to help children in Syria. After five
years of conflict, Syria remains one of the most dangerous places to be a
child. Your donations will contribute to helping these children to remain safe
and have food and water to survive. Please start collecting any loose change
and bring it in on the 27th April, as it will be going towards this
very important cause. Thank you.
Piano Tuition
Mrs Trudy Drake is
offering piano lessons during the school day on Thursday afternoons for any
child in Class 2 or Class 3. If you are interested in your child/ren learning
to play the piano in school, please contact Mrs Drake directly (mob.
07918188519) for more details.
