Newsletter for week ending 24th February 2012

“Jian-Zi” Tournament

We held our annual “Jian-zi” tournament just before the February Holiday and we can now declare our winners. There is a winner for each year group and the individual with the highest score is the school champion for the year.
The winners in each year group are as follows:

Reception Sam Sundberg 2
Year 1 Ellie Walker 2
Year 2 Max Jones 4
Year 3 Oliver Lowman 3
Year 4 Owen Cove 9
Year 5 Jake Day 4
Year 6 Joe Mercer 19

We knew last year’s score of 137 (Benedict Diment) would be very difficult to beat! Congratulations to Joe Mercer, our new champion. Thank you to all participants – the event is always good fun but nerve-wracking for the contestants. If you would like to know what a “jian-zi” is, please ask your children!

We are still awaiting the results of the tournament held at Hazlach School in Poland, so we cannot announce the “international” result at present.

World Book Day
Each child will be sent home today with a £1 World Book Day token designed to help children explore the wonderful world of reading. The tokens are a gift from publishers, booksellers and National Book Tokens and can be swapped for a free specially produced World Book Day book or be used to get £1 off any book priced at £2.99 or more at all book shops participating in this initiative. The tokens are valid until 25th March.
To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 1st March, children may come to school dressed as a book character, and bring the book with them to show. Please bring a £1 donation, which we will put towards our Diamond Jubilee celebrations later in the year.

The Great Daffodil Appeal

Daffodils to support Marie Curie Cancer Care are now on sale in the school hall. Every donation made for a daffodil will help to nurse patients with terminal cancer and provide support for families. The suggested donation is £1 for each daffodil purchased.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers
We are collecting Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers again this year. This popular scheme has gone from strength to strength and 2012 promises to be the most exciting year ever according to David Beckham, the new Active Kids Ambassador. Please ask your family and friends to also collect vouchers for us and put them in the collection box in the school hall. Thank you.

Swimming at Berinsfield
Swimming will begin for Class 3 pupils on Monday 27th February. They will have 5 sessions in total: (5th, 12th, 19th, 26th March). We hope that all parents are willing to make a “voluntary donation” of £1 per pupil for each swimming session towards the cost of the transport. Cheques for swimming donations should be made payable to Stadhampton Primary School please.
