Newsletter No 2 / 1st May 2009

Happy May Birthday to: Lucy Banting, Hannah Bradford, Ruby Dallimore, Benedict Diment, Maisie Matthews, Rory Pattisson and Tazmin Vale.

During May we are focusing on the core value of UNDERSTANDING

Learning Platform
Class 3 pupils have been using the LP in the classroom and at home. They have been uploading documents – Word and Powerpoint, into the Robin Hood Interest Space. They will be contributing to the Robin Hood Wiki and will be posting work into the Tower of London Interest Space. They have enjoyed creating their V-Me’s (electronic images of themselves) and contributing to class discussions in the Class 3 Interest Space.

Thank you to everyone who’s e-mailed the office this week with their e-mail address. So far we have approximately 55% of families who have supplied their e-mail address. Once we have reached approximately 80%, we shall issue user names and passwords to parents so that they can access the Learning Platform. From Friday 5th June, newsletters will routinely only be sent to parents electronically, so do please let us know if you do not have e-mail facilities so that we can ensure that we send home a paper copy. If you haven’t done so already please e-mail the school office at office.2455@stadhampton.oxon.sch.uk so that we have an e-mail address for as many families as possible.

World Record Skipping Attempt
On Thursday 30th April all pupils and staff had skipping ropes ready at 11am and took part in an attempt to break the world record for the greatest number of people skipping simultaneously. Fortunately the rain held off! We skipped for 3 minutes (some finding this harder than others!) and a list of participants’ names was sent to the organisers and we will let you know the outcome. Thank you to families who contributed donations to Alder Hay Children’s Hospital – it’s not too late to add to this collection and we will let you know the total next week.

PTA News
Cakes Needed! Please remember to bring along your cakes to the Car Boot Sale on The Green at Stadhampton on Monday morning (4th May) so we can sell them at the PTA refreshment stall. Bring them along by 0830 or no later than 0930.

Car Boot Sale – volunteers still required on the day to help sell refreshments/ direct car booters. If you can help even for just half an hour come along and join in.

Clothes Recycling – thank you for the bags of clothes. We are waiting to find out how much we were able to raise and will let you know.

Stadhampton School (“baseball style”) caps are now available from Mrs Howlett priced at £3.50 each.

Change 4 Life Leaflet

As part of the Government’s Change for Life initiative, which you may have seen on television, we have been asked to distribute the attached “how are the kids?” leaflet to all families. If you complete the questionnaire and return it to Change 4 Life, you will receive a customised Action Plan.

Books for Schools Tokens
Thank you to everyone who collected Books for Schools tokens for us from The Times newspaper. We sent off our order earlier this week to claim 18 free books.

New French Book
Madame Brookes, our French teacher, has just published a new book in her “Berthe” series. Further information and ordering details are available on the attached sheet.
This week, we have also welcomed Marion Cupet, a French student from the Lycee Louis Jouvet in Paris, into school for two days as part of a work experience opportunity.

Little Bears News
This week Little Bears enjoyed making pizza. They have also been looking at “growing” words such as roots, stems, rain and sunshine and have had fun playing outdoors.
