Newsletter No 6 / 13th February 2009

UNICEF Day for Change
Thank you to everyone who brought in change for this fundraising event for families in Papua New Guinea.
£60 was collected which will be paid into the UNICEF collection account in the next few days.

Measuring height and weight of Reception and Year 6 Pupils
The Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Department of Health have a shared programme of work to improve children’s health and wellbeing. Promoting healthy weight in children is a high priority with the National Child Measurement Programme playing an important part in the overall strategy. Under this programme as many Reception and Year 6 pupils as possible are measured. Reception and Year 6 pupils should have a letter and a leaflet giving further details of this programme attached to this newsletter.

School Meals
A reminder that school meals cost £1.95 per day and that orders and money to pay for school meals need to be sent into the school office on MONDAY morning please. School meals income has to be banked and accounted for separately from any other income; please keep payments for school trips, etc separate from payments for school meals. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Swimming at Berinsfield
Swimming will begin for Class 3 pupils on Monday 23rd February. They will have 6 sessions. We are grateful to receive a “voluntary contribution” of £1 per pupil for each swimming session towards the transport costs.

Red Nose Day (Comic Relief) – Friday 13th March 2009
In order to support this charity event we are planning to have a supply of red noses available for sale at school after the February Holiday.
In addition Food with Thought are supporting Red Nose Day through a special promotion school dinner on the day. Further details are provided on the attached flyer. Please note that Food with Thought request that you indicate your intention to order this meal by returning the reply slip to school by Thursday 2nd March. Thank you.

PTA Calendar of Events for 2009 is attached to this newsletter.

School Council Dress as a Monarch Event
Many thanks to all who supported this event. We enjoyed a very “regal” day and the School Council raised £41 towards frames for the monarch portraits.

Little Bears News
This week Little Bears made bird cake as they hadn’t done it last week because of the snow. They also had fun making a picture book of how the snowman melted. They would be pleased to receive any unwanted shoeboxes and newspapers and are still looking for an upright fridge.
