Week Ending 12 October 2018

Open Morning – Wednesday

It was lovely to be able to welcome so many visitors to school on Wednesday morning when both existing and prospective parents were able to see the school in action. The children in each class were clearly engaged in their learning and there was a quiet, purposeful atmosphere throughout school. We received many positive comments and observations and open morning gives us all an opportunity to reflect on the provision we offer at Stadhampton School.

Thank you to all staff and pupils for making it such a positive morning and to the Governors who generously gave up their free time to take our visitors around the school.

Applications for Secondary Schools to start in September 2019
Children born between 1st September 2007 and 31st August 2008 (inclusive) need to apply for a secondary school place for their children. You can now apply online for a secondary school place. If you are unable to apply online, you can complete a paper application form. The deadline for receipt of secondary school applications is 31 October 2018.

Please note that UID numbers no longer work for online applications. Applicants now have to manually enter all requested details. If your application is late, it will be processed later in the year and you are far less likely to get a place at one of your preferred schools.

Meerkat Champion of the Week
Class 1 Chester
Class 2 Aisulu
Class 3 Thomas

Congratulations to you all!

There are currently no ‘Meerkat Champion of the Week’ awards for children in Reception (Ladybirds) as they are still settling into school routines and are gradually being introduced to learning characteristics and skills through our ELLI Project (i.e. characteristics of teamwork, curiosity, perseverance and creativity, resilience, planning ahead, changing ideas and making links).

Science Club returns!
Advance notice that we will be offering a series of after school Science club sessions later this term for pupils in Years 3-6. We are fortunate to continue to secure the services of Mr Bob Heath-Whyte, a STEM ambassador, to help run this club.

This is a popular club but restricted to a maximum of 14 children so is operated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. We will be sending out further information /permission slips shortly but we can confirm that the club is planned to take place after school between 3:15 and 4:30 on the following 4 Wednesdays; 31st October, 7th November, 28th November  and 5th December.

PTA News:

Christmas Cards
We are using a company called IQ cards this year to print your child’s Christmas design onto Greetings Cards, Postcards, Gift Wrap and Gift labels, as well as magnets and coasters.    Hopefully you will have found your child’s artwork in bookbags this week.

On the reverse of the design is an order form.  If you would like to order any of the products listed, please fill this in and return it together with payment to the office as soon as possible and NO LATER THAN FRIDAY 19th OCTOBER.

A proportion of all funds raised will go directly to PTA funds, so please place orders as soon as possible.

Bag2School Clothes Recycling - Tuesday 30th October
By getting involved in our next Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles in the bag provided – this can include anything from the list below.

Men’s, Ladies and Children’s clothing

Paired shoes (tied together or elastic band around)
Handbags/Hats/Bags/Scarves/Ties
Jewellery/Lingerie
Socks/Belts
Household linen /Curtains
Towels
Soft Toys
Bedding (bed sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers

Collection bags will be delivered to school shortly, but you can use normal black bin bags as well. Funds paid to the PTA by Bag2School are based on weight so the more bags collected the more we raise! Extra bags are available from the School Office should you need them.

PTA Meeting - Wednesday 7th November - after school
We will be holding an informal PTA meeting in the hall after school on Wednesday 7th November. We realise many parents find evening meetings difficult to attend due to work and childcare commitments, so we are hoping a change in time will give lots of families a chance to come along.

Please take the opportunity to come along and say hello, meet other parents, find out what the PTA does, what funds have been spent on or to share your ideas on fundraising.  If you can help with fundraising, perhaps by making some cakes for Cake Club or helping at some of our events, or perhaps you are interested in becoming an active PTA member or have other skills to offer, please do pop in and have a chat.  Everyone is welcome, there will be activities in Class 1 to keep children occupied.
