Newsletter No 7 / 17th July 2009

Sports Day
It was wonderful to see so many people at our sports evening last Friday. Thank you to all the athletes, supporters, helpers and the PTA for making this event such a success. Even the weather was on our side this year! Here is a report from the joint captains (Cameron and Mair) of the winning team:
“At 6.30pm on the 10th July all pupils from Stadhampton School walked onto their running track ready to race to victory. After an hour of racing all the teams were exhausted and ready for an early night. But everyone managed to stay awake for the final score of a victory for the Green Team!”

Message from the PTA Committee
The Sports evening PTA BBQ & Bar was a huge success last week as we managed to raise a net amount of £422. Thank you to everyone who bought food and drink; the Pimms was very popular and will be a permanent fixture at future events.

The total amount of money raised this academic year is a healthy £3400 which although not as much as previous years (£5000) is a tremendous amount in the current economic climate. Thank you to everyone for your support during the year; you may be an active PTA member, a Chiltern Chase runner, a cake maker, or someone who buys tickets, donates sponsorship or gets involved in other ways. It is through our combined efforts that we are able to raise funds for the school to enable our children to have special treats such as a Daylight Theatre performance, use the school swimming pool, have computers, learn French and a whole host of other events. So THANK YOU!

Date for your calendar – Music Quiz with optional Fish & Chip supper Friday 16th October.

Message from the School Council
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Cartoon Competition. Ella from Class 1 came 1st, Oliver from Class 3 came 2nd and Ella-Mae from Class 2 came 3rd.
The Fun Run was a great success. There were some crazy costumes ranging from Superman to Santa. Despite the rain we made £61.50, Thank You!
Thank you to all members of the school council this year and to Mrs Sutton for giving up her time to help us.
We start the new school year with an opening fund of £216 which we can build on and then spend on new projects.

Daylight Theatre Performance
Many thanks to the PTA for financially supporting this event. Here is a report by Maisie and Annabel from Class 2:
“Today we had a play about King Arthur. It was very entertaining. The funniest and naughtiest character was Mordred – he fell into the well! There was also a bird and a goblin called Pebble. At the end everyone clapped for ages because it was so good! We got to ask the actors some questions and have a look at the set. The well wasn’t that deep after all! We hope they come back next year.”

“Design a Lunchbox” Competition

Thank you to all who took the time to enter our competition with some fantastic ideas for a healthy lunch. We are pleased to announce that the winners were: Jessica – Class 3, Ella-Mae – Class 2 and Cora – Class 1.

Learning Platform Update
We have loaded some photographs from Sports Evening and from the School Council Fun Run onto the Learning Platform which you may like to see.

Great Haseley and District Horticultural Society

You may like to know that this year the Great Haseley & District Horticultural Society are holding their Annual Show at Chislehampton House on Saturday 29th August. There is a children’s schedule and families should receive a programme of events, through school, this week. During this event our ‘stained glass’ window will be on display at St Katherine’s church, Chiselhampton. The images in our window are based on pupils’ interpretations of lines taken from John Betjeman’s poem “Verses Tuned”. Betjeman wrote the poem in support of St Katherine’s Church in 1952 and it has provided inspiration for our support of this local event.

Hello’s and Goodbye’s
We say a very sad farewell to Mrs Sutton, Mrs Wells and Mrs Thorpe who all leave Stadhampton School today along with our Year 6 pupils. We have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you and send you all our very best wishes for the future.

We welcome Mrs Tracy Leiper as a Teaching Assistant on our team starting in September.

Have a happy and safe summer!
