School Nativity Service
It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Nativity Service in the church on Tuesday. Thank you for coming and thank you for your very positive comments! The re-enacting of the nativity story was beautifully carried out by our Reception pupils and it is particularly poignant that it takes place in the church setting. It has become a special annual tradition of the school.

Christmas ‘Thanks’
Thank you to all families for supporting our request that all children take part in our annual whole-school Christmas dinner. A festive time was had by all. Thank you to all staff for serving the children and a special ‘thank you’ to Mrs Sheridan for preparing and cooking over 100 Christmas dinners!
Continuing with the subject of food, thank you also to Mrs Burnell for baking a cookie for every child in the school as part of their Christmas party food on Thursday.
And thank you to everyone - governors, PTA, parents and volunteers – for all your support this term and for the many Christmas wishes we have received - on behalf of the pupils and staff of Stadhampton School a very Happy Christmas to you all!

Swimming in Term 3
Swimming will start for pupils in Class 2 on Monday 11th January 2016. They will have 5 sessions through to the February Holiday. As always, we are most grateful to receive a donation of £2 per child per swimming session towards the cost of the transport. Cash or cheques made payable to Stadhampton Primary School please for £10 if you would like to pay for the cost in one go. Thank you.

After School Club Updates
We currently have places still available for Multisports and Dance Club which start in January 2016.

Lost Property
A reminder that any unnamed items remaining in the lost property box will be disposed of after the children have all departed on Friday 18th December – please check for any long lost items!

PTA News

We are pleased to report that the total raised at the Winter Fair was £1137. Thank you to everyone for their amazing support of the PTA this year. On behalf of the committee we would like to wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Friday Cake Club
Congratulations to Jemima O’Brien, the lucky winner of last week’s cake, kindly donated by Mrs Walker. A reminder to Mrs Gravett that she is on the rota for 8 January 2016, the first Friday after the Christmas holidays.

Newsletter for week ending 11th December 2015

Christmas Productions
Congratulations to all pupils on their fantastic performances in both the KS1/FS and KS2 Christmas productions this week. We received many compliments about each performance and pupils should be very proud of themselves. Thank you to school staff for preparing pupils for the performances, creating the scenery, making props and organising the music and the lighting; thank you to parents for helping with costumes, learning of lines and buying tickets to come along and watch! Special thanks to Mrs Wilkin for helping with the face painting, props and production of the play, Mrs Hutchence for helping with rehearsals, Mrs Bowerman for helping pupils with their costumes, Mr Garrard for organising lighting, Mrs Madry and Mrs Parkes for videoing the productions and finally thank you to the PTA for serving refreshments on Tuesday evening. The total raised from ticket sales and the bucket collections was an amazing £567.30 which, this year, will be used to help us to continue to provide Forest School sessions for all pupils. Thank you!

Forest School Dates for Terms 3 and 4
Please find attached to this Newsletter the Forest School dates for Terms 3 and 4 so that everyone knows when their child will be attending a Forest School session. Please note that Year 6 will have a session on Thursday 14 April (at the start of Term 5) and Reception pupils will continue with their usual Tuesday afternoon slot.

Pupils off- site
For your information all pupils will be involved in the practice for the Nativity at the church on Monday morning and will be walking there and back accompanied by school staff.

Whole School Christmas Lunch
It is a tradition at Stadhampton School that the whole-school joins in our Festive Lunch which this year is on 16th December and we hope that no-one will have a packed lunch on that day.

The menu is:
Roasted Turkey with Sausage Pigs in Blankets or Celebration Roast; Yorkshire Pudding, stuffing; cranberry sauce; roast potatoes, carrots, peas and gravy. Dessert is Happy Snowman Face Ice Cream and a Christmas Cookie. We can accommodate requests such as no gravy, etc.

The cost of the meal is £2.10 and all pupils make their special place mat in the morning and we have crackers, napkins and music. Staff serve the pupils with their meal. Payment for the meal for pupils in Classes 2 and 3 is welcome at anytime prior to the event. Pupils who normally have a Free School Meal may still do so on this day and pupils in Reception and Class 1 who are entitled to a Universal Infant Free School Meal still get their lunch free on this day too!


Lost Property
There is a mountain of lost property in the box in the Hall! If you are missing any items please have a look through the box. Anything remaining in the box (unless it is named) will be disposed of after the children have all departed on Friday 18th December. Thank you.

Website Updates
This week we have added a ‘Recent Letters’ tab to the school website. Here we have uploaded recent letters about trips, projects, after-school clubs etc., so that parents have a reference point for them if the original letter sent home via book bags goes missing.

Swimming Contributions
It is not too late to pay any outstanding contributions towards the cost of the swimming transport for pupils in Class 3. Thank you.

Guitars
Guitar is now finished for this term and will resume on the second week back after Christmas. Times and day will remain the same.

PTA News
Tickets for Wreath Making Evening have now sold out.

Hot dogs, snacks and sweets will be provided free, to thank you for supporting SYC this year. The usual £1.50 sub will be due.

We'll be back in the New Year, one year old!
Sessions will run on 6 & 20 January and 3 & 17 February 2016 at The Village Hall St John's:
18.30 – 19.30 – School Years 5 & 6 (approx. ages 9 to 11)
19.45 – 20.45 – School Years 7, 8 & 9 (approx. ages 11 to 14)
Subs £1.50/week. Bring no more than 50 pence for the tuck shop.
Before attending, a Membership Form, signed by a parent, needs to be completed and handed to the Club/ Session Leader (available on the door or by emailing the address below).

MEMBERS' SAFETY NOTE - PLEASE READ!
Between Sep and Mar, members in school years 5 & 6 MUST be walked to and home from sessions by an adult. If it will be difficult for your child to attend SYC because of this, please let us know and we will see what we can do to help.
SYC prefers all members to be walked home by an adult. Members in school years 7+ may walk home unaccompanied ONLY if we have written consent from a parent/guardian. We suggest that members never walk home alone. We recommend you try to arrange to walk with other members at all times.

Radio Oxford Socks Appeal
A reminder that we are collecting socks for the current Radio Oxford Socks Appeal. This is an appeal for pairs of unused adult-sized socks which will be distributed to homeless people in and around Oxford this Christmas. Many thanks for all the pairs already donated and if you’d still like to donate we will be continuing to collect until the end of term.

Curriculum Target Cards
Following the introduction of Target Cards as a means of tracking and sharing pupil progress in Reading, Writing and Maths, we were very pleased with the positive feedback we received from parents at our recent Parents’ Consultation Evenings. The vast majority of parents we asked valued the system and the sharing of information. We shall be sharing the updated Target Cards before the Viewing Evening in March 2016.

Items for the Foundation Stage Class
Our Foundation Stage Class (Reception) would welcome donations of the following items if anyone has any they would be willing to part with!
Drainage pipes; pebbles; bottles and bottle tops; bamboo canes; watering cans; tree stumps!

Poppy Collection
Thank you to everyone who purchased poppies and other related items from the selection recently in school. We are pleased to report that £56.78 was the total amount collected in our tin.

Forest School Rainsets/Waterproofs
A huge ‘thank you’ to the PTA for funding 50 sets of waterproofs in various sizes for Stadhampton School children. As you know Forest School sessions take place in all weathers and all year around. These waterproofs will ensure that all children are dry and can enjoy their Forest School experience whatever the weather! Thank you also to the Nursery Shop in Abingdon and Kozi Kidz for agreeing a special offer price.

ELLI Project
All families should receive in book bags a letter about the start of a new learning project that we will be undertaking as a trial this school year. It features ‘Ellie the Elephant’ and ‘Toucan’. The project consists of a set of practical approaches, strategies and activities designed to foster greater energy for learning in individuals and learning communities. There are seven learning dimensions, each represented by an animal character, which we will introduce over the coming months. We are excited about implementing this project, which begins on Monday. We hope that you will support us and help your child by discussing each new dimension and character when it is introduced. Please see your child’s teacher if you have any queries.

Knitted Nativity Characters travelling round the village
If anyone is interested in having the knitted nativity scene visit their home for a night during December please email Sara Wright direct with your details. You do not have to be religious to have them, its just a Christmas tradition for villagers. They start on the 1st December and end up at the 5pm Christmas Eve service in the Church. If interested please email sarawright300@btinternet.com before 1st December. Thank you.

Emergency Closure Procedures
If the weather is particularly bad or there are power cuts in the village and the decision is made to close the school, the information is given to parents through BBC Radio Oxford, Jack FM and Heart FM. Parents are advised to tune into these local radio stations and also check their websites if there is a possibility that the school could be closed. We will also do our best to put a message onto the school website if there is power!

Children In Need Collection
Thank you to everyone who supported this event last Friday. We are pleased to report that £132 was collected from the donations for ‘wearing something spotty’ combined with the ‘Guess the number of sweets in the jar competition’. Tende Amery was the lucky winner of the competition. Tende guessed that there were 569 sweets in the jar, only 5 away from the actual total of 574! Thank you to Miss Mould for donating (and counting!) the sweets.

ROBOTSCOOL – Change of Date
Unfortunately the session planned for 30th November will not now be able to take place as the leader of this after school club is going to be out of the country.
The missed session will be added on at the end so the dates for the next sessions are now as follows:

Year 5 Visit to Icknield Community College
Report by Ella G, Ben W, and Tillie M.B: “On Thursday 12th November, Year 5 went to Icknield Community College to experience a secondary school day. We had lots of fun but it was educational too! We took part in several subjects, all relating to a special theme. The day included solving a crime, which taught all of Year 5 about the chromatography of pen ink. After lunch, we headed to the Music Studio with Mr Hunter, the Headteacher. Since our theme was solving crime, we learnt the lyrics to Skyfall from the James Bond film. It was recorded and we really enjoyed listening to it. We also played it to the whole school in an assembly when we got back to Stadhampton School.”
A copy of the recording has been e-mailed to all parents of Year 5 pupils.

Christmas Play Tickets
In previous years we have given the proceeds from the sale of play tickets to a variety of charities but this year we have decided to raise funds from ticket sales to help us continue to be able to provide Forest School sessions for all pupils. Tickets are now on sale for the following performances:

All pupils in school will attend Dress Rehearsals of the play that they are not in so that they have an opportunity to see the ‘other’ play. Little Bears Pre-School will be invited to attend both Dress Rehearsals.

In order to avoid making the Monday morning queue outside the office even longer, tickets may be purchased any morning or afternoon next week from Mrs Hopkins or Mrs Scragg.

Winter Fair on Friday 27th November- raffle tickets are arriving in book bags for you to sell before the event to family and friends, please look out for them and return them by Wednesday 25th.


Cake Donations- we would be very grateful for any cakes, biscuits or cookies for our cake stall at the Winter Fair; Please bring any donations into the hall on Friday 27th (morning).

Parents Help- any help on the day from parents would be appreciated, if parents could spare an hour to help on a stall or help to clear up after then please see a committee member.

Hampers- Key Stage 1 and 2 will be doing hampers for the Winter Fair, please see your child's teacher to see what is needed for the hamper. It is friendly rivalry between the Key Stage 1 ( Reception & Class1) and Key Stage 2 (Class 2 & 3) on who’s hamper is the fullest.

Children In Need on Friday 13th November
Many thanks for your support again this year. We shall let you know in next week’s newsletter how much we raised for Children in Need by pupils paying £1 to wear something spotty for this special day.

Act of Remembrance
At 11 o’clock on Wednesday 11th November we held our annual Act of Remembrance with all pupils and staff. Year 6 pupils read some extracts from well-known and less well-known reflective poetry and did so with consideration and dignity. All pupils were respectful of the two minutes’ silence and were a credit to the school and their parents.

Curriculum Target Cards
On Friday 13th November your child/ren should come home with an envelope containing a set of curriculum ‘Target Cards,’ which we have introduced as an assessment record for Reading, Writing and Maths, and an explanatory letter.
The Target Cards, based on National Curriculum descriptors, have been developed to enable us to share information about your child’s progress towards meeting their targets during the year. We will be making reference to them at next week’s Parents’ Consultation Evenings.
Should, for any reason, you find that you do not receive this envelope please contact your child’s teacher.

PTA News
Cauliflower Christmas cards- all children should have bought home Christmas cards which they have made at school, some may need to be finished at home, these need to be returned to school no later than MONDAY 16TH NOVEMBER. We only have a short time to get them sent off and returned to us in time for Christmas, any cards handed in after Monday will unfortunately not be sent off.

Bonfire cake competition- thank you to everyone who entered, we had some great cakes and it was very difficult for Miss Raval to pick the winners; congratulations to all the winners.

Wreath Evening on Tuesday 15th December- tickets are now available for this popular evening, priced at £15 including mince pies and mulled wine. Tickets are selling out very quickly. Please see Georgina Wiggins for tickets; these are sold on a first come first served basis.


Winter Fair on Friday 27th November- raffle tickets are arriving in book bags for you to sell before the event to family and friends, please look out for them and return them by Wednesday 25th.


Cake Donations- we would be very grateful for any cakes, biscuits or cookies for our cake stall at the Winter Fair; Please bring any donations into the hall on Friday 27th (morning).

Parents Help- any help on the day from parents would be appreciated, if parents could spare an hour to help on a stall or help to clear up after then please see a committee member.

Hampers- Key Stage 1 and 2 will be doing hampers for the Winter Fair, please see your child's teacher to see what is needed for the hamper. It is friendly rivalry between the Key Stage 1 ( Reception & Class1) and Key Stage 2 (Class 2 & 3) on who’s hamper is the fullest.

Christmas Holiday Sports Course at Stadhampton School
The Christmas Holiday Sports Course led by Michael Hopkins, a qualified PE teacher, on Monday 21st December is now fully booked. However, due to the popularity of the course, it has been extended to a second day. There are still places available for Tuesday 22nd December. The course runs from 9-3pm and is open to all pupils (not necessarily just Stadhampton School) aged 4-11. The cost is £10 for the day and bookings can be made directly by e-mailing m.hopkins07@hotmail.com or via Mrs Hopkins in the school office. Early booking is advised.

Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who supported the Book Fair before the October Holiday. Sales were £361.53 which enabled us to take books to the value of £100 for class libraries by way of commission.

School Photographs
Please could any orders for photographs be returned to school by Monday 11th November (date has been extended from 4th November). Thank you.

Class 3 -Swimming at Berinsfield
A reminder that Class 3 pupils are swimming at Berinsfield this term. We are, as always, grateful for a contribution towards the cost of the transport to Berinsfield (£70 for each visit) of £2 per child, per swimming session. Cash or cheque made payable to Stadhampton Primary School please (£14 for the 7 weeks). Thank you.

Recorder Lessons
Also a reminder that recorder lessons for all pupils in Classes 2 and 3 take place on Mondays this term. For hygiene reasons we ask that all pupils have their own, named, recorder and thank the many families who have supplied this. Recorders and recorder books are available from the school office at £6.50 and £5 each respectively. We use the John Pitts “Recorder from the Beginning” series of books. Generally children in Mrs Manzie’s or Miss Raval’s groups use Book 1 and children in Mrs Turner’s group use Book 2.

Children in Need
On Friday 13th November it is Children in Need Day. Children can donate £1 to ‘wear spots’. This could be a T-shirt, trousers, a hat, shoes, a wig or you can use your imagination.
The School Council will also be holding a ‘guess the number of sweets in a jar competition’ - 50p a go. This will take place in the Hall at first break. The winner will be announced in the afternoon assembly and win the whole jar of sweets. All proceeds will go to Children in Need.

Class 2’s Visit to Chedworth Roman Villa
Report by Izzy and Jemima: “Last week Class 2 went to Chedworth Roman Villa. It was an experience Class 2 will never forget! We got to touch real Roman artefacts like a cow’s thigh bone, a piece of mosaic, a piece of pottery and a whole Roman snail shell. In this specific temple the Romans believed there were water nymphs in the pool. The water came from a spring in the hill along a long pipe which is still there! We dressed up as Roman slaves and made Roman medicine using different herbs. We really enjoyed our day!”

Your child has missed 47 days of lessons – something is seriously wrong.
To be in with the best possible chance, pupils need to attend every day.
